11 Commoner is the class most of the playable cast of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave begins in. It is not one of the five Beginner classes and it is not on the exam ladder. It sits outside the three-tier structure entirely, alongside Noble, as a starting state a unit leaves rather than a rank a unit earns.

55 Classes divides the ladder into Beginner, Specialty and Advanced tiers, each reached by passing a certification exam. Commoner and Noble are listed apart from all three. The practical meaning is that a Commoner has somewhere to go and nothing to lose by going: the class carries no proficiency bonus of its own, so the first exam a unit passes is a straight upgrade rather than a trade.

1010 The unrestricted weapon list is the class's defining trait and its limitation at once. A Commoner can be handed a sword, a spear, an axe, a bow, gauntlets or a tome and will use it, which is what makes the class a blank slate for a player deciding where a unit should end up. What it will not do is gain the proficiency that the specialised Beginner classes feed into the exam requirements, so time spent as a Commoner builds weapon ranks through use at the arena plaza rather than through a class bonus. Seteth is listed as a Commoner in the roster grouping while a separate preview account placed him on a flying mount, and Leda is listed as a Commoner in one place and in the returning Hunter class in another. Neither has been settled, and both are recorded on those characters' own pages.

2121 As of September 2026, no base stats, growth rates or stat modifiers for the Commoner have appeared on any official class screen, presentation or press release, and no class skill has been named for it.
