Free Demo
September 12, 2026 at 08:03 AM
Initial version (2026-09-12)
A free demo for FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE released on September 3, 2026, on every platform the full game ships on. It runs from the opening through the end of Chapter 1, takes roughly 3 to 5 hours, costs nothing, and carries its save data into the full game.
Square Enix describes the demo as the same Chapter 1 range that appears in the retail build, freely explorable, with level caps applied that the full game does not impose. The published estimate is approximately 3 to 5 hours of play, which lines up with earlier preview builds of the same chapter running about five hours.

Progress made in the demo transfers into the full game, so the Chapter 1 run does not have to be repeated at launch. Square Enix states this in every regional version of the demo announcement, English and Japanese included. What the demo does not carry is the pre-order and early purchase bonuses: those are collected in the full game from the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra.
Square Enix runs a separate playable build at its Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth in Hall 3, stand 03-S01, from September 17 to September 21, 2026. Visitors choose from three save files, and Square Enix states that two of them hold content the downloadable demo does not.
Save file | What It Offers |
|---|---|
New Game | The story from the beginning, as in the downloadable demo |
Dungeon | A slice of the core gameplay, described as clearing a mid-game dungeon |
Colosseum | Battles against powerful foes in the Colosseum |
Players who take a turn receive a retro-style game box and an exclusive FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME promotional card featuring Fina, card number PR-232/16-058R, while supplies last. The booth also carries a large wall panel of the game's pixel character art, with a spot-the-difference campaign run against the same illustration printed in the booth pamphlet, and the game appears among the titles screened in the booth theater.
As of September 12, 2026, no Resonance stage event is scheduled for the show. The three activities above are the whole of the game's Tokyo Game Show presence in Square Enix's own listings.
As of September 12, 2026, Square Enix has not published the demo's download size on any platform, whether it will be updated before release, or whether it stays available after the full game launches on October 22, 2026. The demo listing also carries no Steam Deck rating of its own, while the full game is rated Steam Deck Verified; see System Requirements.
