Overview
Demon Doors are talking stone doors that block off hidden areas of Albion until the Hero satisfies whatever each one asks for. Playground Games confirmed their return on June 7, 2026 at the Xbox Games Showcase, and describes them as sentient and overly opinionated stone doors that gatekeep mysterious areas and the rewards that lie within.
The studio has framed them as a fan-favourite element it did not want to build the reboot without, in line with how it has handled other returning names such as Hobbes, Balverines and Trolls.

The Chicken Kicking Door
One Demon Door has been described in detail. Playground Games says it pits the player against a foe so ancient and so iconic that no Hero's journey would be complete without facing it, then reveals the encounter is a chicken kicking minigame. It is the clearest example so far of how the studio intends to use the doors, as self-contained set pieces with their own tone rather than as plain locked gates. The gag sits alongside the wider chicken running joke the reboot has leaned into since its first showing.
How They Fit the Reboot
Albion in this game is a single seamless open world with no loading screens between regions, so a Demon Door is one of the few deliberate gates the design uses. That makes them a natural home for optional content that sits outside the main quest structure. Whether opening a door depends on the reputation the player has built in a settlement, on a combat challenge, or on something else entirely has not been said.
What Has Not Been Said
Playground Games has confirmed the doors exist, described their personality, and named one minigame behind one of them. Everything else is open: how many there are, where they sit on the map, what they ask for, what they hand out, and whether any of them are voiced by the cast the studio has already named. Treat any specific door, riddle, or reward that circulates before launch as unconfirmed.
