Gauntlet Abilities

Initial version (2026-05-19)
Every Traveler in EXODUS wears a pair of gauntlets that host both the Railclaw grappling tool and an ability slot for active combat and traversal powers. The Recycler weapon is independent of the gauntlets, but the active abilities listed below are channeled through them and are what the campaign trailers refer to when they mention 'gauntlet abilities'. Several of these abilities are equally useful for navigating ruined environments as they are for resolving firefights.
The Lance is the first gauntlet ability shown in extended gameplay footage. It hurls a livestone javelin for heavy single-target damage. Livestone is the same material the gauntlets shape elsewhere, and the javelin is the canonical example of the gauntlets weaponizing it directly. In firefights, the Lance is the go-to opener for an elite unit or a Changeling shock target that cannot be efficiently brought down with sustained Recycler fire.
Eruption shapes livestone into structures and bursts. In traversal it forms beams across chasms and bridges across collapsed terrain, which is how the player crosses the deeper Guarding Maze and the Foundations beneath Lidon. In combat it launches enemies airborne, opening short windows for follow-up shots from the Recycler or for a companion ability to land. The two uses share the same gauntlet hardware: the gameplay in the May 2026 Ghost City demo showed Eruption shaping a bridge moments before being used to disrupt an enemy formation in the next encounter.
Precognition is a scanning ability. In peaceful settings the Traveler uses it to read landmarks across a city, surfacing the layered history of a building or monument; the April 2026 Persepolis demonstration used Precognition to walk through the story of the Oupávia Space Tower without leaving the balcony vantage point. In hostile environments the same ability tags enemy positions through walls, marks tripwire mines, and surfaces patrol routes. It is the player's primary intelligence-gathering tool before any stealth approach, and it pairs with the Recycler's Spectre configuration for ranged silent takedowns.
Up close, the gauntlets enable silent melee finishers that do not break stealth. The Ghost City demo also showed a livestone glove melee strike, in which the gauntlet hardens around the Traveler's fist for a heavy punch at close range. These are the close-quarters companions to the Lance: where the Lance throws livestone outwards, the glove uses it as an in-hand finishing tool.
Ability | Type | Confirmed Uses |
|---|---|---|
Lance | Ranged offensive | Livestone javelin for heavy single-target damage; reliable opener for elites and Changeling shock units. |
Eruption | Hybrid traversal / area control | Shapes livestone into bridges and beams for traversal; launches enemies airborne in combat; redirects magma flow in the Foundations. |
Precognition | Reconnaissance / scanning | Scans landmarks for hidden lore; marks enemy positions, tripwire mines, and patrol routes; supports stealth approaches. |
Gauntlet takedown | Stealth melee finisher | Silent close-quarters elimination; does not break stealth. |
Livestone glove strike | Melee | Hardened livestone fist for close-range punch finishers; demonstrated in Ghost City combat. |
Gauntlet abilities are independent of the Recycler, but most encounters are paced around alternating the two. A representative cover-shooter pattern is to mark targets with Precognition, open with a Spectre Recycler shot if stealth is the goal or a Lance throw if combat has already begun, follow up with Eruption to displace the survivors, and reposition with the Railclaw before the enemy reorganises. Each ability also feeds the squad: companions like Elise Charroux and Salt have abilities that combo with airborne targets or marked enemy positions. The full combat picture lives under Combat and Gameplay.
Several gauntlet ability details are still missing from public footage: cooldown lengths, charge mechanics, upgrade paths, mutually exclusive slots, and whether any abilities are tied to specific armor sets or skill trees. The June 6, 2026 extended gameplay reveal is expected to provide more of that detail, and this article will be expanded once the showcase lands.
