Progression

Recorded that playtest progress was reset when the first Steam playtest ended on October 19, 2026
Progression in EVILBANE runs through the operations you clear and the gear you build up between them. This page describes the systems in the first Steam playtest in October 2026. All playtest progress was reset when the test ended on October 19, 2026, and the team has said combat and progression improvements are the first step on its post-playtest roadmap, so the details here are expected to change.
During an operation you earn gold by collecting orange glowing items on the ground and by defeating enemies. Side Missions, marked in blue, can also reward materials for unlocking Heavenstones. If your squad does not clear the operation, you lose all the gold and materials you collected during it. See Missions for how operations are structured.
Some weapons, customization options, and Heavenstones start locked. Unlocking them needs your account to reach a certain level, specific materials, or both. Some operations are locked too, opening only once you complete another operation first.
Rodrik, at the Headquarters, upgrades Weapons in exchange for gold and materials: Heavenstone Powder, Fragments, and Essence. Enhancing a weapon raises its base ATK one level at a time, and the official playtest screen shows a Greatsword going from +0 to +1 with its ATK rising from 250 to 262.

Runes add extra stats on top of a weapon's base power. Rodrik engraves them, but only on weapons enhanced to at least +3: rune sockets open at +3, +6, and +10, so the number of runes a weapon can hold depends on its upgrade level. Once a rune is engraved, removing or replacing it costs separate materials, so the choice is worth making carefully.

Runes come with a wide range of effects. One shown in the playtest, the Rune of Barrage, gives a 30% chance to increase ATK by 20% for 7 seconds when a QTE succeeds.
The developer's plans for after the playtest add a longer layer of progression tied to the War Map. Merits earned over a Season would be tallied at its end and kept as Season Medals and Titles, and fully reclaimed regions would open shared benefits such as a regional blessing and special Heavenstones. None of this was in the first Steam playtest.
