Battle System
September 15, 2026 at 08:23 AM
Initial version (2026-09-15)
Combat in Eternal Anima is classic turn-based command battle, written ターン制コマンドバトル in Japanese and 回合制指令戰鬥 in Traditional Chinese. The official site gives the pillar the Latin-letter heading Battle System, and the mechanic that defines it is 未来予測, covered separately in Future Sight. The game is unreleased, and everything here is pre-release description rather than play experience.
Each turn the game predicts and displays when every enemy will act and what the result of that action will be, down to who would be hit and for how much. The player then chooses commands against that information: prepare and raise defences to absorb what is coming, or pre-empt it by striking first, or push the enemy's action out of reach entirely. Because the display updates as commands are chosen, the player's decisions visibly rewrite the predicted outcome rather than gambling against a hidden one.
The in-world explanation for how the party knows any of this is Psychometry and Anima: Japanese and Chinese copy describe Wade reading the enemy's killing intent, which makes the outcome of their next action visible.
Two further mechanics have names, and both come from the official developer conversation video rather than from a store page or the official site. They should be read as a designer talking about his own systems on camera, which is a slightly softer source than published marketing copy, and worth re-checking as the game gets closer.
Mechanic | Japanese | What was described |
|---|---|---|
Break | ブレイク | Hitting an enemy's weakness delays that enemy's action along the timeline. Pushed far enough, to the end of the timeline, the enemy's next-turn action is cancelled outright. |
Weakness defence | 弱点防御 | Once a weakness has been hit, the enemy gains weakness defence on the following turn, so the same trick cannot simply be repeated over and over. |
Countermeasures | - | Changing class to match the enemy's weakness, and defending, were both named as responses available to the player. See Classes and Skills. |
The pairing is the point: Break rewards finding a weakness, weakness defence stops the fight collapsing into one repeated input, and the class system supplies the flexibility to keep finding new angles.
Elemental weaknesses are confirmed independently of the video: pre-order bonus text describes a weapon that increases damage dealt to a weakness element. Boss fights are confirmed by the same text, which simply refers to ボス戦. In the conversation video the director describes the intended difficulty shape as ordinary encounters being comparatively easy to play through, with bosses built so that a player cannot win without thinking. No difficulty settings have been announced.
The director, whose own background is decades of battle programming, explains in the same video why the combat carries so much weight. The passage below is transcribed from that video; the Japanese is his and the English rendering is ours.
「RPGって7割8割バトルだと僕は思ってた」 … 「全部じゃないですけど」 … 「そこがRPGの面白さを決める要素かなと思ってるので、バトルにはすごくこだわりました」 (our translation: "I used to think an RPG is 70 or 80 percent battle." … "Not all of it, but" … "I think that is the element that decides how interesting an RPG is, so I was very particular about the battles.")
See Development Team for his credit on this game.
As of 15 September 2026 the following are unknown, and this wiki does not guess at them.
Party size, and how many characters act per turn.
How turn order is determined, and how the timeline that Break manipulates is presented or measured.
The stat model. Bonus-item text names HP, MP, attack, defence, speed and EXP, but attaches no values to any of them.
Equipment: how it is equipped, what slots exist, and what it modifies. Only the facts that equipment is manufactured and that a material called アニマイト is needed for it have been stated.
The full element list, status effects, and whether any resource beyond MP gates skills.
Any enemy, boss or encounter by name.
There are no combat guides, damage formulas or tier lists for this game, because it has not been released. For the wider picture see Gameplay.
