Announcement and Reveal
September 15, 2026 at 08:23 AM
Initial version (2026-09-15)
Eternal Anima was revealed during Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9, which began broadcasting at 23:00 JST on Wednesday 9 September 2026. It was not announced by standalone press release, not at a publisher-run stream, and not at a trade show. The reveal segment is hosted on Nintendo's own Japanese video channel, and both the Japanese and the English publisher announcements describe the game as having been announced during that day's Direct.
A 10 September 2026 date appears on several surfaces, and it is not a second announcement. The Japanese press release was posted at 00:47 JST on 10 September, which is 107 minutes after the broadcast began. Japan's clock had rolled past midnight by the time the release went out, so the release timestamp is the following day while the reveal it describes is not.
A second 10 September timestamp comes from the PC storefront's own announcement post, which was published a day after the broadcast. Neither timestamp moves the reveal. The announcement date is 9 September 2026. Where a posting time matters, this wiki gives it as a posting time and says so.
Time (JST) | Event |
|---|---|
9 September, 23:00 | Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9 begins broadcasting. The Eternal Anima segment airs during it. |
9 September, from 23:36 | The first trailer goes live on the publisher's Japanese console channel, running 4:01. |
9 September, evening (US time) | North American and European announcement trailers are published as separate uploads, running 3:54. |
10 September, 00:01 | The developer conversation video is published. |
10 September, 00:47 | The Japanese press release is posted, carrying pricing, the Japanese voice cast and the platform list. |
10 September | The wishlist campaign is announced, package pre-orders begin rolling out, and the per-retailer bonus page goes live. |
10 September | Simplified and Traditional Chinese cuts of the first trailer are published. |
In total seven official videos exist across five official channels, including two separate Chinese-language cuts and separate North American and European uploads of the announcement trailer. The publisher's own site playlist lists only three of them, so a count taken from that playlist alone will be short.
The trailer presents the game's premise, its overhead viewpoint and its turn-based combat: the false paradise of Urvis Ael, Wade branded a heretic for hoping for a better future, and his leap into The Forbidden Sea. Reporting on the night of the broadcast noted a sequencing detail worth recording: the Direct segment itself presented the game as a Nintendo Switch 2 title, and the full four-platform list, including the simultaneous PlayStation 5 version, arrived with the press release that followed minutes later.
Store listings went live in step with the announcement rather than later. A PC storefront page, PlayStation Store concept pages in Japanese and English, and Nintendo eShop listings in Japan and Hong Kong were all reachable the same night. No price was set on the PC listing in any region, and the Japanese eShop download listing showed as not yet on sale. The full picture is in Editions and Pricing and Release and Platforms.
The announcement release also disclosed that the project had been teased once before, in 2023, under the working title PROJECT LIFE is RPG. That name left a physical trace: the European publisher site serves every image for this game from file paths namespaced LIFE, including the logo file itself. The 9 September 2026 Direct segment is therefore the first reveal of the finished title, not the first the project had been mentioned at all.
The publisher opened wishlist registration on 10 September 2026 and posted a dedicated notice for it on the official site's news feed, alongside the notice that package pre-orders were beginning to roll out and that retailer-specific purchase bonuses had been published. The wishlist notice is one of only four news items the official site had published as of 15 September 2026.
As of 15 September 2026, no Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth, playable build or stage appearance has been announced for this game. TGS 2026 runs from 17 to 21 September 2026 at Makuhari Messe.
This is a checked absence rather than an assumption. The official TGS exhibition listing carries no occurrence of the game's title in either English or Japanese, and the only two occurrences of the publisher's name on that listing are the affiliation line of one employee speaking on an indie-incubator session panel, not a booth. The publisher's own corporate news feed has no TGS 2026 item at all, and its newest entries are the 10 September announcement posts.
One caveat on the negative: stage programmes are routinely added in the final days before the show, and the floor map and timetable only published on 11 September. This should be re-checked after 17 September 2026.
Six days after the reveal, the announcement remains the only news beat this game has had. As of 15 September 2026 there are no hands-on previews, no press interviews with any credited staff member, no demo or playtest of any kind, and no news item on any official channel newer than 10 September. The single piece of developer commentary that exists is the conversation video covered in Development Team.
