Keke is the maid of the Sanctuary in Ember and Blade, and the character who runs the forge where Fenrix fits Runes to his weapons between expeditions. She is not a hired servant: she and her younger brother Pea are golem siblings created by Ariella to keep the Sanctuary running, which makes her one of the few friendly faces inside the seal.
Who Keke Is
Official character material introduces Keke and Pea together as the Sanctuary's maid and page. The studio describes them as a golem "sibling" pair created by Ariella so that the Sanctuary keeps working while its guardian is occupied elsewhere. Keke is written as the responsible older sister: bright, spirited and fiercely loyal, with a nurturing tone that the studio sums up as a spirited caretaker. Pea is her chaotic younger brother, who treats every wall as a canvas and repeats every passing thought at least twice. The pair are described as caring for the Sanctuary together and adding a little warmth to a world teetering on the edge.
Her design notes lean on innocence, porcelain skin, and a small plant growing on her head. Later official clips play on the contrast between that appearance and what she actually does, introducing her workshop with the warning not to let the cute looks fool you. In an August 2026 short she is called the castle maid rather than the Sanctuary's, which is the only variation the studio has used for her title so far.
Keke's Magic Forge
Keke's practical role is the forge. The Sanctuary carries three permanent upgrade stations, and hers is the one that handles weapon enhancement through the Rune system. Official material is specific about the arrangement: the runes fitted there are Ariella's, and Keke is the one who tracks them down, so she supplies and installs them rather than creating them herself. Equipping a rune means visiting Keke's Magic Forge and opening its Rune tab, where runes can be swapped and managed between runs.
Station | Run By | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
Keke's Magic Forge | Keke | Fits Ariella's Runes to weapons, pushing them past their normal limits |
Pea's Workshop | Pea | Supplies Relics, chosen before setting out to shape the run's strategy |
Grace of the Arbor | The Arbor | Converts Amber recovered on expeditions into permanent gains for Fenrix |
Because runes adjust attack patterns, strengths and trade-offs rather than simply raising numbers, the forge is where a weapon's behaviour is decided. Two players carrying the same base weapon can fight very differently depending on what Keke has fitted. How that sits alongside the other progression layers is covered on Progression and Builds.
The Sanctuary Room
In August 2026 the studio showed the forge in its own space, calling it the Sanctuary Room and framing it as the safe haven a player returns to mid-adventure. The clip shows Keke hammering away at a weapon and closes by telling players to stop by before taking on the next boss, which positions the room as a deliberate pause between runs rather than a menu. The wider hub it sits in is described on The Sealed Realm, and the loop that keeps sending Fenrix back to it is covered on The Run Loop.
The Wildflower Hammer
Keke is also credited with a weapon of her own. The studio introduced the Wildflower Hammer in August 2026 as a special weapon she crafted for Fenrix using her own magic, describing the resulting hammer action as imbued with her heart. That makes it the one weapon in the arsenal presented as a gift from a character rather than something found, bought or unlocked, and it is the clearest sign that her role extends past maintenance into the story. The weapon itself is listed on Weapons.
She is credited with a second weapon as well. The dual daggers Sunbeam and Moonhush are described in the forge as her first attempt at crafting something more delicate, made after she was moved by a story about the moon's long-standing unrequited love for the sun: one blade like bright sunshine, the other like whispering moonlight. The same entry ends on a joke at her own expense, noting that she prefers sunny days because laundry dries faster. Between the two weapons, the forge is where most of her characterisation actually lives, since she has no dialogue scenes of her own that the studio has shown.
What Is Not Confirmed
Keke has no announced combat role, and nothing official suggests she leaves the Sanctuary. Her golem nature is stated but not explained: how Ariella made her, when, and whether that ties into the 500 years of the vigil have all been left open. Pea has not been given a page of his own here because his workshop is currently the only detail attached to him beyond the shared character reveal.
