Unanswered//butterfly

Unanswered//butterfly is a 110-minute original animated film produced by Polygon Pictures and released alongside Echoes of Aincrad. It is marketed as a companion piece to the game rather than as a standalone project.

Cast

The film features Kirito and Asuna alongside new original characters Emirun and Rex. Because Kirito and Asuna's primary story presence at launch is here, the film is also how most of the Echoes-era Sword Art Online canon is being delivered rather than through the game's playable cast.

The Ultimate Edition of Echoes of Aincrad includes the Unanswered//butterfly Bonus Contents App, which ties the film's content to the game's original storyline.
