Added three places named for the first time in patch 1.0.10 to the named-places table
11The Continent of Orbis is the open-world setting of DragonSword: Awakening. Hound13 has described it as a radiant, warmly coloured fantasy world rather than a grimdark one, built in Unreal Engine 5 and leaning into brightness and colour over shadow and decay.2233The Name Orbis445566"Orbis" is used in two ways in the game, and both are canon:7788The Continent of Orbis is the entire open-world landmass that makes up World 1.Orbis is also the name of "the first kingdom built by humankind," a founding human civilisation located on that same continent. Lute is travelling toward this kingdom when the main story begins.991010Environments11111212The regions Hound13 has shown and described in the lead-up to launch include:13131414Beautiful meadows and rolling countryside.Watchtowers with secret cellars hidden beneath them.Treasure-filled deep seas.Hidden caves and dungeons.15151616All of these are explorable on foot. Movement is on-foot first, with Familiars layered in as mounts once the player has collected one, and some regions only becoming reachable once the player has the right mount.17171818The Dragon and the Heroes of Old19192020Sixty years before the events of the game, a Dragon brought the continent to the brink of destruction. Six legendary Heroes rose to drive it back, and the continent settled into a long peace. Now, as the game opens, a Dragon has reawakened on Orbis, and the modern cast is sent to trace the footsteps of those six Heroes of Old, uncover their hidden secrets, and decide whether any of them can take up the title of the Dragon Sword.21212222Factions232324242525Hound13 has said the continent has "factions entangled in complex interests," and has now named the five factions present at launch: the Johnny Mercenaries (the mercenary band Lute joins, led by Johnny, alongside the Elf Castella), the Red Fox Mercenary Corps (to which Kalien belongs), the Organa Order, the Orbis Kingdom (the Orbis Royal Castle's knights), and the Lentus Rebellion Army. Further factions may surface as more of the nineteen Heroes are revealed.26262727FactionRole at launchJohnny MercenariesThe mercenary band Lute falls in with, led by Johnny and including the Elf Castella; the player's home group for the main story.Red Fox Mercenary CorpsA mercenary company; the Spiritist Kalien is a member.Organa OrderA religious order of inquisitors; Theresia and Ornette serve within it.Orbis KingdomThe knights of the Orbis Royal Castle (the Magic Knight Order and the numbered Knight Orders), serving the kingdom's peace and stability.Lentus Rebellion ArmyA rebel faction in the launch story; further details not yet revealed.2828World Structure and Future Expansions29293030RegionStatusContentWorld 1: Continent of OrbisShipped July 23, 2026Eight main-story chapters plus additional Hero quests and a new Eastern region added for the Steam release.World 2: The Floating IslandsPlanned expansionConfirmed as a future expansion pack that will introduce new characters and a new world on top of the base package.3131Exploration Tools32323333Foot traversal: The entire continent is explorable on foot as the first-tier traversal option.Familiar mounts: Collectible Familiars grow from a miniature follow-along form into full-size mounts when ridden. Each Hero begins with a mount.Dragon riding: A core aerial traversal feature. Hound13 has said the freedom-of-movement design is inspired by The Legend of Zelda series.Cooking: Ingredients found across the continent are combined to create new dishes, giving exploration an in-world reward loop beyond combat and loot.34343535Named Places in the Shipped Build363637373838Patch notes since release have put names to parts of the map that pre-launch material only described in general terms. Nine World Bosses are placed across the continent and reset on a timer, and Sudden Missions appear at locations that have to be discovered before they are tracked in the Merc Guide. Patch 1.0.4 raised the payout on both, tiering the bosses into three reward bands.45454646Reward bandWorld BossesLowestHorg the Roamer, Andras the Cave Predator, Pakirus the Specter of ThirstMiddleScraping Brack, Karon the Tyrant, Hagen the Dark NecromancerHighestHungry Eye Octavia, Lavanis Feather of Burning Ashes, Barpedin the Crushing Darkness4747Other named field encounters include Snark the Hungry Pouchfang, who guards a locked chest, Igniter Snickrak, whose early defeat could once break an Area Quest, and Undiscarded Erat, a Sudden Mission boss. Underwater chests exist in specific areas, and treasure chests are scattered widely enough that several patches have been spent on ones that failed to appear. See Update History.
