As of its reveal, Divinity does not have a release date. Larian Studios has confirmed only that the game is coming to PC, and that it will follow a paid early access approach similar to Baldur's Gate 3.
Release Window
No date or window has been announced. The game was still described as early in development at its December 2025 reveal, with a team of about 500 developers working on it as of early 2026. Larian has indicated that the early access phase is not expected to begin in 2026. Director Swen Vincke has said the team is targeting a three to four year development, shorter than the roughly six years Baldur's Gate 3 took.
Platforms
Platform | Status |
|---|---|
PC (Windows) | Confirmed |
Consoles and handhelds | Not announced |
Steam Deck | Not confirmed; stated goal |
Switch 2 | Not confirmed; under consideration |
Larian's previous game, Baldur's Gate 3, later reached consoles, but no console or handheld versions of Divinity have been confirmed.
Early Access
Larian has used paid early access for its major role playing games, including Divinity: Original Sin, Divinity: Original Sin II, and Baldur's Gate 3, using player feedback to refine each game before its full launch. Director Swen Vincke has said Divinity is planned to follow the same path. The start of early access is not expected in 2026.
Steam Deck and Switch 2
Beyond PC, two platforms have come up directly. Larian has said it will do its best to release the game on Steam Deck again, pointing to how popular its last release was on the handheld, though this is an intention rather than a confirmation and there is no verified-handheld promise yet. The studio has also said it will certainly consider a Switch 2 version for the game, again as a consideration rather than a commitment. PC remains the only confirmed platform.
Development Update
At the start of 2026 the studio described the project as being in full production. At the end of March 2026, director Swen Vincke shared a short development update saying the game had reached the stage where it was starting to come alive, while cautioning that a lot was still rough or missing and very moldable. He mentioned working through the arcs of one of the game's antagonists and digging into micro-details, but gave no release window. These are progress notes, not a schedule.
Staying Current
Because details are scarce this early, treat any release date that does not come directly from Larian as unconfirmed. Common questions are answered on the Frequently Asked Questions page.
What Paid Early Access Means Here
Larian Studios has described the project as following the same paid early access approach the studio used for its earlier major role playing games. That model lets players buy the game and play an in development build, with the studio shipping updates and using community feedback to refine systems before the full launch. Larian has not announced the price, the initial scope of an early access build, the platforms early access will cover beyond PC, or which storefronts will carry it.
Where Early Access Stands
As of early 2026 the studio has said the paid early access phase is not expected to begin in 2026. Director Swen Vincke has also said the team is targeting a three to four year overall development, shorter than the roughly six years Baldur's Gate 3 took. Neither figure constitutes a release date. Both are statements of intent that may move as the project develops.
Updates Will Come from Larian
Because so little is announced this early, the only reliable source for release information is Larian Studios itself. Treat any date, platform, or pricing claim that does not come directly from the studio as unconfirmed. The Frequently Asked Questions page tracks the latest answers.
