Beyond the Abyssal Dragon, Dinghai: The Ocean Pillar draws several figures from the mythology of the Classic of Mountains and Seas into its story. Only their roles within the game are described below.

Figure	Role in the Game
Yi	Godson of the flood-taming hero Yu. In the opening, the surviving soul of the Abyssal Dragon seizes Yi’s body in the moments before death, giving the fallen general a new vessel in the mortal world.
Emperor Yan	The liege the Abyssal Dragon once served as a general, before he was disgraced and exiled. His court frames the Abyssal Dragon’s fall from grace.
Yu	The flood-taming hero and Yi’s godfather, who has vanished without a trace. Uncovering what became of Yu is described as part of the Abyssal Dragon’s journey.

Adversaries

Beyond these named figures, the Abyssal Dragon fights through gods, demons, and monsters drawn from ancient Eastern mythology over the course of each run. No individual enemy or boss has been named yet.
