Witchcraft Build
October 23, 2026 at 05:09 AM
Added a Witchcraft setup with charge generation, hex progression and equipment tradeoffs
A Witchcraft build combines Hex Magic with sword attacks and Perfect Blocks. The sword supplies Activation Charges, while hexes damage enemies, protect Coen and recover the health spent on casting. Its strongest combinations work during the day; a second equipment preset and some night abilities are needed when the sun sets.
Priority | What to look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Charge generation | Activation Charge Restoration from Perfect Block, restoration from actions and passive restoration | Repeated casting needs a reliable supply of charges. |
Casting efficiency | Witchcraft health cost and cooldown bonuses | Reduces the health and waiting time needed to maintain hexes. |
Damage | Witchcraft Ability Damage | Raises the payoff from the effects already active on a target. |
Early sword support | Weapon damage, critical damage and attack stamina cost | Useful while manuals and additional Witchcraft slots are still being collected. |
Perfect Block Window bonuses help if the timing is inconsistent. Early equipment drops are variable, so use their actual bonuses to compare replacements instead of waiting for a particular item name. Upgrade a piece when its bonuses suit the build and it is likely to stay equipped.
Start with Burning Blood and the Swordmastery tools already available. Perfect Block, Sustained Focus and Renewed Focus support charge generation. Forbidden Sigils adds Witchcraft slots; Frugal Witchcraft, Witchcraft Mastery and Unnatural Resilience then improve the return from keeping a hex active. These purchases compete with other uses of the 30-Day Cycle, so check the shrine's displayed time cost before committing.
Frugal Witchcraft returns health when an affected enemy dies. In a group fight, damaging a weaker enemy with a hex before finishing it gives a way to recover health while the more dangerous target is still alive. Avoid spending every charge at once if that leaves no protection or recovery available for the next exchange.
Life Lock is a major defensive addition, but it comes from progressing the Manumit questline. It is not an ability every new character can equip immediately. Until it is unlocked, rely on sword defense, Dirty Trick and the hexes actually learned. Additional manuals and quest rewards expand the setup over the course of the run.
Ability | Use in the build | Development goal |
|---|---|---|
Burning Blood | Damage continues while Coen attacks or blocks. | Its higher ranks allow the effect to transfer when a target dies. |
Life Lock | Blocks incoming hits and reflects damage. | Improve it after its quest unlock to extend protection. |
Soul Reaping | Drains health from the target. | Use it to support longer fights and recover casting health. |
Soul Stigma | Improves critical chance and critical damage against the marked enemy. | Apply it to a target that will survive long enough to justify the cast. |
Unholy Vitality | Returns health after active abilities are used. | Pairs with repeated casting rather than occasional isolated hexes. |
Cycle of Ruin | Combat actions extend active Witchcraft effects. | Becomes more useful as the number of maintained effects grows. |
Potent Blood can remove a cast's health cost, while Unholy Fervour can refund an Activation Charge. Lasting Malediction increases effect duration. Together with Aether Flow's cooldown support, these perks let later setups spend more of a fight maintaining hexes. The Ultimate Perks choice is permanent within its tree: Aether Cascade supports repeated casts, so decide on that direction before taking a different Witchcraft ultimate.
Buried Past provides Pieter's Garb early enough to serve as a useful chestpiece. Durandal is a later sword option; The Hand of Fate is another daytime choice once its quest is completed. Runic Enchantment supports Witchcraft but sacrifices armor, while Ancient Hero's Armour is a defensive alternative. The equipment routes are collected on Legendary Equipment.
The reward at the end of Stronger Than Achilles requires a choice. Drinking from the Font of Life grants daytime passive health regeneration. Destroying it grants Ancient Greaves with Witchcraft and charge-related bonuses. Those are alternative rewards from the same decision: a build should not assume it receives both. Letting Anca use the Font produces her personal outcome instead.
Compel Soul and Astral Communion also reward exploration. Speaking to souls reduces Witchcraft cooldown, and using Astral Communion at places of power improves Witchcraft damage. Mercurial Fervour helps daytime travel between objectives.
Hexes become unavailable at night. Keep sword abilities or suitable Vampiric Powers available for that half of the cycle. Voracious Bite provides a night healing option, while Shapeshift serves travel. A Witchcraft investment does not remove the need to prepare for a quest that starts or continues after sunset.
