Wound of Darkness is an Abyss Gear ability in Crimson Desert that unleashes three blades of dark energy forward during Turning Slash attacks. The dark blades travel in a straight line toward the targeted enemy, dealing substantial damage on impact. Wound of Darkness is widely regarded as one of the best single-target Turning Slash modifier effects due to its reliable directionality and high damage output.
The ability is originally found on the Vessel of Dark Pursuit, the unique sword rewarded for completing the Sanctum of Absolution. It can be extracted and transferred to any weapon with an available Abyss Gear slot.

Wound of Darkness comes pre-installed on the Vessel of Dark Pursuit sword, which is the reward for completing the Sanctum of Absolution. This sanctum is part of the quest line that begins when you first encounter a Witch NPC and receive the objective to clear the sanctums scattered across Pywel.
Inside the Sanctum of Absolution, the final boss is Antumbra's Sword, a challenging enemy that uses vertical dark energy slashes. After defeating Antumbra's Sword and clearing the sanctum, the Vessel of Dark Pursuit is awarded. The sword comes with Wound of Darkness already socketed. To use Wound of Darkness on a different weapon, extract it at any Witch and embed it into your weapon of choice.
When Wound of Darkness activates during a Turning Slash, three blades of dark energy launch forward from the player's position. The blades travel in a straight line toward the locked-on target, making them highly reliable for single-target damage. At point-blank range, all three blades pass through the enemy, dealing their full damage.
Unlike Frost Spike and Ground Surge (which fire in a cone or V-shape), Wound of Darkness always aims directly at the target. This makes it the most consistent Turning Slash modifier for boss fights, where hitting a single large target reliably matters more than area coverage.
Wound of Darkness is a core component of several high-damage Turning Slash setups:
Turning Slash Nuke Build: Combine Wound of Darkness with Frost Spike (or Ground Surge) and a third Turning Slash effect for triple-stacked burst damage. Add Volcanic Eruption and Flames of Judgment for fire synergy. See the full Turning Slash Nuke Build guide.
Boss Killer (Minimal Setup): Even without a full nuke build, Wound of Darkness plus Momentum (+35% Turning Slash damage) is a strong two-piece combo for boss encounters.
Two-Handed Sword Build: The Vessel of Dark Pursuit itself is a strong two-handed sword. Players using the Longsword Build can keep Wound of Darkness in the weapon alongside other offensive cores and Spirit Siphon for sustain.
Wound of Darkness deals a lot of single-target damage. If your build has room for only one Turning Slash modifier, this is the strongest choice for boss fights.
The three blades push enemies back slightly. Against smaller enemies, this knockback can create space after your Turning Slash lands.
Wound of Darkness does not require any specific element to be active. It triggers from the Turning Slash input regardless of whether you have fire, frost, or lightning imbued.
Stacking Wound of Darkness with other Turning Slash effects increases the Spirit cost per Turning Slash. At maximum Spirit (150), three effects allow roughly three full Turning Slashes before needing to regenerate.
