The Calling is the first story arc in Chapter 9: The Sage of the Desert. It consists of two main quests: An Unknown Voice and Cloister of Enlightenment. Together they serve as the chapter's introduction, bringing Kliff from the outskirts of Demeniss through a hidden canyon and into the Cloister of Enlightenment, a vast underground temple buried beneath the desert sands.
This arc sets the spiritual tone for the rest of Chapter 9 and introduces the Focused Force Palm, a key mechanic used throughout several of the chapter's subsequent quests. The Calling has no combat rewards; its purpose is to establish the setting and teach the new ability.
Quest | Quest Number | Prerequisite | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
119 | A Fleeting Dream (Chapter 8) | None | |
120 | None |
An Unknown Voice is the 119th main quest in Crimson Desert and the first quest of The Calling arc. The quest begins south of Demeniss, where a marker signals the start of Chapter 9.
Speak with the witches on the cliff
Walk with the witches to the cave entrance
Find the Trials: follow the canyon path to the quest marker
Travel to the quest marker located south of Demeniss. Two witches stand on top of a cliff overlooking the area. Approach and speak with them to trigger a short dialogue.
After the conversation ends, turn around and walk alongside the witches. Holding the follow button causes Kliff to keep pace with them automatically. The group travels together briefly before a cutscene plays, dropping Kliff off at the entrance to a cave.
Enter the cave and follow the path through the canyon toward the quest marker. There may be a few enemies along the route, but none present a serious threat. Upon reaching the marker, a cutscene plays at a large golden statue, concluding An Unknown Voice and immediately beginning Cloister of Enlightenment.
Cloister of Enlightenment is the 120th main quest in Crimson Desert and the second quest of The Calling arc. The quest description reads: "The voice reached out once more, urging you to unravel the secrets engraved upon the stone tablets."
This quest has a single objective: purify the massive golden statue using the Focused Force Palm, a new ability that the game introduces here. The technique can catch players off guard, as it is not explained clearly within the game itself.
Purify the massive golden statue
Before attempting the purification, learn the Focused Force Palm controls for your platform:
Platform | Enter Focus | Charge Palm | Release |
|---|---|---|---|
PS5 | Hold L3 + R3 | Hold R3 (several seconds) | Release R3 |
Xbox | Hold LS + RS | Hold RS (several seconds) | Release RS |
PC | Hold X | Hold Middle Mouse Button (several seconds) | Release |
The golden statue stands in the chamber reached at the end of An Unknown Voice. To purify it, follow these steps:
Jump onto the statue and position Kliff on its legs, facing the torso area.
Activate Focus mode using the controls listed above. A golden glowing orb will appear in the midsection of the statue once you begin charging.
Hold the charge button to build up the Focused Force Palm. Keep the aim on the golden orb while charging.
Release to fire the Focused Force Palm at the orb. A cutscene triggers on a successful hit.
Purifying the large statue automatically purifies all the other statues as well, completing the quest in a single action. The game transitions directly into the next story arc, Shattered Ties, without any downtime.
The enemies in the canyon during An Unknown Voice do not need to be fought. You can run past them if you want to reach the quest marker quickly.
The Focused Force Palm mechanic returns later in Chapter 9. Practicing it here on the statue costs nothing if you miss.
There are no rewards for completing either quest in The Calling arc. The arc exists purely to advance the story and introduce the new ability.
If the Focused Force Palm is not working, make sure you hold Focus first (L3+R3 / LS+RS / X), then separately hold the charge button. Activating them simultaneously instead of in sequence is a common mistake.
