The Steel Mountains are a mountain range located in the southeastern reaches of Hernand, facing the Great Ocean of Pywel. The mountains earned their name because their valiant and unyielding appearance is said to be as solid as steel. The range forms a natural boundary in southeastern Hernand, overlooking the ocean and separating the region from the waters beyond. The area is notable for its iron ore deposits, a Spire of Insight, and an ancient ruins bell puzzle that rewards an Abyss Artifact.
The Steel Mountains sit near the border with the Demeniss region. The Bay of Steel lies along the coastline at the foot of the range. The southeastern position makes the mountains a natural landmark when navigating between Hernand and the coast. The Spire of Insight is located in the area and serves as a navigation reference point.
The Steel Mountains contain iron ore deposits that can be mined with a pickaxe or Force Palm. Iron Ore is found in the southeast of Hernand within the Steel Mountains area. It is a common crafting material used for weapon and armor upgrades at the blacksmith. While not as rare as Gold Ore, Iron Ore is consumed in large quantities for equipment progression, making the Steel Mountains a worthwhile farming stop.
The Steel Mountains Ruins contain one of the game's ancient ruins puzzles. This particular challenge is an Abyss Cresset puzzle located northwest of the "Steel Mountains" text on the world map, near the Spire of Insight.
The main feature of this puzzle is two rows of bells, four bells per row, built into a cubby along the cliff face. A mallet sits nearby for striking the bells. On the left side of the clearing, pieces of paper are stuck to a board, each displaying a symbol. To the right, the eight bells are arranged in order, each marked by its own symbol matching one of the papers.
Use the mallet to strike the bells in the order indicated by the symbols on the paper board. The correct sequence is:
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
When played in the correct order, the bells echo in a recognizable ascending-then-descending tone. After the final strike, a secret wall nearby lowers, revealing the Abyss Cresset chamber.

Bay of Steel: The coastal bay along the foot of the mountain range
Spire of Insight: A navigation landmark near the bell puzzle site
Demeniss: The neighboring region to the east and south
City of Hernand: The main settlement of the Hernand region to the northwest
The bell puzzle is located northwest of the "Steel Mountains" text on the map, not at the mountain peaks themselves. Look near the Spire of Insight.
Read the symbol papers on the board carefully before attempting the bell sequence. The order is 1-2-3-4-5-6-4-3-2-1 (ascending to 6, then descending back to 1).
The revealed wall that opens after solving the puzzle is nearby but may not be immediately obvious. Look around the cliff face after the bells finish echoing.
Mine iron ore deposits while exploring the area. Iron is essential for early and mid-game equipment upgrades.
The oceanside location provides unique scenery. Consider visiting during different weather conditions and times of day for varied views.
A Sealed Abyss Artifact can also be found in the broader Steel Mountains area. Check the PowerPyx sealed artifact guide for the exact position.
