The Spire of Clockwork Key is awarded during A Fleeting Dream, the 118th main quest in Crimson Desert and the final quest of Chapter 8: Blood Coronation. The quest tasks Damiane with travelling to the tower east of Demeniss and confronting Lucian Bastier. Defeating Bastier (a two-phase boss that transforms after the first health bar) drops the key along with four armor pieces: Official Knight's Plate Armor, Official Knight's Leather Boots, Official Knight's Leather Gloves, and Official Knight's Plate Gloves.
The key cannot be purchased or crafted. It is a quest-exclusive drop, and no duplicate or replacement exists if it is somehow sold off (it is marked as a quest item while the quest is active to prevent accidental disposal).
The Spire of Clockwork Key has two separate gameplay uses once it enters your inventory, both tied to the Spire of Clockwork at Breezeblown Knoll in eastern Demeniss.
Inserting the key on the Spire's front gate opens the main door and powers the clockwork machinery inside. This is a hard prerequisite for the Riddle Square gliding time trial at the top of the Spire and for earning progress toward the Conqueror of Spires trophy. Completing the Spire rewards an Abyss Artifact that grants Wind Level 1 and the Storm Veil skill.
Powering the Spire also starts the exterior cogs rotating. Those cogs are the surface used by the community glitch that clips the player into a sealed chamber near the top of the tower, where the Mace of Ambition is stored. Without the key, the cogs do not spin, so the glitch cannot be performed. Players aiming to collect the Mace of Ambition should bring a few Explosive Arrows along with the key.
The key is not consumed when the gate opens. It stays in the key items tab of your inventory, so you can re-enter the Spire as often as you like. This is important for players attempting the Mace of Ambition glitch, which often requires multiple retries before the gear-clip succeeds.
