Added confirmed Warspike East Gate spawn pair and favorite-food / Companionship III taming tips

The Shepherd is a large, intelligent working dog breed with a thick double coat. Bred for herding livestock across the plains and highlands, the Shepherd is highly obedient and eager to work. Its protective instincts and trainability make it one of the most reliable companion breeds in Crimson Desert.

Found near the Hernand North Gate soldier encampment and in the southern regions of Pywel. More commonly found in the Kweiden region.
To tame the Shepherd, approach it in the wild and interact with it to begin building Trust. Dogs can be petted directly by pressing the interaction button. Each petting action grants +5 Trust, and you can pet up to five times per in-game day for a maximum of +25 Trust from petting alone.
You can also feed the Shepherd up to three times per in-game day. Drop food from your inventory near the dog to feed it. Shepherds prefer Bird Meat as their favorite food, granting +35 trust per feeding. Their working dog mentality means they respond well to consistent interaction.
Once the Shepherd reaches 100 Trust, hold the interaction button to register it as your companion. Dogs can often be tamed within one to two in-game days with consistent petting and feeding with their favorite food.
The Shepherd's favorite food is Bird Meat, which grants the maximum +35 Trust per feeding. Other accepted foods grant +10 Trust per feeding.
Dogs accept a wide variety of meat, fish, and prepared foods. Top food items include Small Bone and Large Bone (+25 pts each), followed by various cooked and raw meats (+10 to +20 pts). Daily feeding is limited to three times per in-game day, with the day resetting at midnight in-game time.
Like all pets in Crimson Desert, the Shepherd automatically runs around the battlefield after combat and loots items from enemy corpses. Pets do not fight, attack enemies, or take damage. They function exclusively as automatic loot collectors.
Pets disappear when you mount your horse and reappear when you dismount. Only one pet can be active at a time, with remaining registered pets stored in your inventory's Pets tab.
The Shepherd can wear Pet Equipment, including one headpiece and one body outfit at a time. Pet armor is purely cosmetic and does not provide combat stats. Pet cosmetics can be purchased from Milou's Shop in Pororin Village or the Demeniss Pet Tailor in the southeast corner of Demeniss.
Dogs are generally faster to tame than cats. With their favorite food, many dogs can reach 100 Trust within a single in-game day.
Petting resets daily at midnight in-game time. Plan your visits accordingly to maximize daily Trust gains.
Dogs looting ability works automatically after combat. There is no need to command or direct your pet to pick up items.
You can register up to 30 pets total. Completing the full roster unlocks the Natural Collector trophy.

A reliable, confirmed spawn for the Shepherd is at Warspike East Gate, the guarded gate outpost on the east approach. Two Shepherd dogs roam around the outpost itself, usually near the gate guards and the patrol path immediately outside the wall. Fast travel to the outpost, walk up to a Shepherd with at least one Small Bone in your inventory, drop it in front of the dog, let it eat once or twice, and follow up with a couple of pets. The pair at this outpost will almost always finish their trust bar inside a single in-game day using this routine.
The Warspike East Gate pair is an example of a broader pattern: Shepherd-type dogs tend to gravitate to guarded gate locations and soldier outposts across the map rather than to villages or city markets. If you cannot get the spawn you want at Warspike East Gate on a given day, the fastest fallback is to fast travel to another guarded gate or border post and check the patrol area there, rather than wandering the open world looking for a loose Shepherd. See Companions for the full list of dog-friendly outposts and gate waypoints.
The Shepherd follows the standard dog preference chart. Its favorite food is Bird Meat, which grants +35 trust per feed. Stock two or three pieces before you leave camp so the feeding phase of the tame finishes in one or two interactions. After the feed limit is reached, switch to Small Bone and petting as a follow-up petting accelerator: the bone itself does not feed the dog a second time past the daily feed cap, but dropping one in front of the Shepherd keeps it engaged and locked in place so the petting prompt stays available for the remaining interactions of the day.
For the fastest possible tame, equip the Companionship III abyss core in any active slot before you start. This adds +3 trust on top of every feed and pet interaction. Combined with the feed-and-pet routine above (three feeds at +35 each plus five pets with the Companionship III bonus stacking on each), a Shepherd can reach the 100 Companion Trust registration threshold well inside a single in-game day with zero need to return the next morning.
Full mechanical background on feed caps, pet caps, daily resets, and the exact math behind favorite-food trust bonuses lives in the Pet Taming Guide. If you plan to tame several dogs in sequence, the Companion Affection Guide also covers how affection and trust interact once the pet is registered.
