Recipes in Crimson Desert are records of cooking techniques that guide players in preparing meals. Cooked food is the primary way to heal Kliff during exploration and combat, making the cooking system one of the most important mechanics in the game. Each recipe requires specific ingredients and must be cooked at the appropriate station: an open flame for basic grilled dishes, a cooking tool for multi-ingredient meals, or a cauldron for drinks and specialty items.
Recipes can be obtained by purchasing them from merchants and innkeepers, finding them on shelves inside buildings, or receiving them as quest rewards. Cooking spots with bonfires and cauldrons are common throughout the world, appearing in every settlement and at most camps. See Crafting Manuals for details on how to acquire new recipes. Once a recipe has been read, the knowledge is permanently learned and the recipe item can be sold.
There are three types of cooking stations, each supporting different recipe categories.
Station | Locations | Recipe Categories | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Open Flame / Bonfire | Camps, settlements, and scattered throughout Pywel | Grilled Cooking (single-ingredient dishes) | Most common station; found at nearly every rest point |
Cooking Tool | Greymane Camp, Hernand Town, and most settlements | Field Grill Cooking, Field Pot Cooking | Supports both grill and pot recipes; has an Improvise option |
Cauldron | Towns, the Witch's house, Shadow's Whisper Cave | Drinks, Palmar Pills, Dyes | Required for brewing beverages and crafting consumables |
When using a cooking tool, you can select a recipe directly from the menu or choose to Improvise, which lets you manually pick ingredients. Improvising is useful when you want to cook a basic version of a dish without the extra ingredients required by its upgraded variants. For example, when cooking Fish Porridge for Renee's Request, the Improvise option lets you use the minimum ingredients instead of defaulting to a higher-tier variant.
Grilled dishes are the simplest recipes in the game. They require only a single ingredient and can be cooked at any bonfire or open flame. Grilled Meat is the most efficient early-game healing food, restoring 80 health for just 1 raw meat. All meat quality types (Tough, Lean, Fine, Tender, Marbled) produce the same Grilled Meat result.
Dish | Ingredient | Health | Spirit | Buff | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Grilled Meat (Small) | Meat x1 | +80 | - | - | Best value; all meat types produce the same result |
Hearty Grilled Meat | Meat x10 | +220 | - | - | Less efficient per resource but higher single-item healing |

Grilled Bird Meat | Bird Meat x1 | +60 | - | - | Obtained by hunting birds |
Grilled Pincers | Pincers x1 | +60 | - | - | Obtained from crabs and crustaceans |
Grilled Seafood | Seafood x1 | +60 | - | - | Various sea creatures |
Field grill recipes combine multiple ingredients into more substantial meals. These are cooked at a cooking tool and provide better healing along with Fire Resistance buffs. Many recipes accept ingredient substitutions; vegetables can be Onion, Flax, Cucumber, Turnip, or Beet, while grains include Lentils, Beans, Barley, Wheat, and Peas.

Field pot recipes produce soups, porridges, and stews that typically provide the best healing values along with Ice Resistance buffs. These require a cooking tool with a pot. Water is a base ingredient for every pot recipe and can be collected from wells and water sources or purchased from merchants.

Steamed Fish | Northern Pike x2, Shineberry x1, Barley x2, Water x3 | +280 | +26 | Ice Res. Lv 6 (1 min) | Requires rare fishing catch; top-tier healing dish |
Feasts are the most powerful prepared meals in the game, granting massive Spirit restoration and powerful combat buffs. They require pre-cooked components as ingredients (such as Meat and Fish Skewers and Boiled Meat), making them expensive to prepare but extremely valuable before difficult encounters.
Feast | Ingredients | Spirit | Buffs | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Special Meal | Raspberry x2, Lentils x3, Meat and Fish Skewers x3, Boiled Meat x2 | +75% | No Spirit Cost (6s), Ice Res. Lv 6 (1 min) | Base feast recipe |

Feast ingredients like Meat and Fish Skewers and Boiled Meat must themselves be cooked first. Plan ahead and stockpile the component dishes before attempting to prepare a feast.
Drinks are brewed at a cauldron and provide various buffs. They require Water as a base ingredient along with gathered materials. Cauldrons are also used to craft Palmar Pills and dyes.
Drink | Ingredients | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Wine | Fruit x2, Sugar x1, Water x2 | Spirit restoration | Fermented fruit beverage |

Palmar Pills are crafted at any cauldron and serve as an automatic revival item. When Kliff's health reaches zero with a Palmar Pill in inventory, the pill activates and revives him with 30% of his maximum health. The recipe for Palmar Pills can be found in Shadow's Whisper Cave on the west shoreline of Three Saints Falls.
Item | Ingredients | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Palmar Pill | Medicinal Herbs x15, Water x2 | Auto-revive with 30% HP on death | Requires 15 herbs per pill; stock up before boss fights |
Most cooked dishes provide temporary elemental resistance buffs in addition to healing. Field grill recipes tend to grant Fire Resistance, while field pot recipes tend to grant Ice Resistance. The resistance level and duration scale with recipe complexity.
Resistance Level | Duration | Typical Recipes |
|---|---|---|
Lv 2 | 30 seconds | Basic field grill and simple pot recipes |
Lv 4 | 1 minute | Advanced multi-ingredient grill and pot recipes |
Lv 6 | 1 minute | Special pot recipes and feasts |
Buff durations are measured in real-world time, not in-game time. Eat buff meals right before engaging a boss or starting a gathering route for maximum benefit.
Many recipes allow ingredient substitutions within the same category. This flexibility means you can cook most dishes with whatever you have on hand rather than hunting for one specific item. The following table shows which ingredients are interchangeable.
Category | Interchangeable Items | Used In |
|---|---|---|
Vegetables | Onion, Flax, Cucumber, Turnip, Beet | Battered Vegetables, Fish Skewers, Braised Ribs, and most recipes listing 'Vegetable' |
Grains | Lentils, Beans, Barley, Wheat, Peas | Fish Porridge, Vegetable Porridge, Clear Soup, and most recipes listing 'Grain' |
Meats | Tough Meat, Lean Meat, Fine Meat, Tender Meat, Marbled Meat | All recipes listing 'Meat'; all quality grades produce the same result |
Fish | Whole Fish or 2 Fish Fillets | Battered Fish, Fish Porridge, Fishball Soup, and other fish recipes |
Ingredients for cooking can be gathered from across Pywel using various life skills. Knowing the best sources for each type helps you stock up efficiently.
Ingredient Type | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Meat | Hunting wildlife, butcher vendors | Types: Tough, Lean, Fine, Tender, Marbled. All produce the same Grilled Meat. |
Fish / Fish Fillet | Fishing in lakes and rivers, fishmonger vendors | Clean caught fish to obtain fillets |
Vegetables | Fields, forests, merchant vendors | Taking from fields requires a Mask to avoid reputation loss. Includes Onion, Flax, Cucumber, Turnip, Beet. |
Fruit / Berry | Trees in forests, merchants | Can also be obtained by felling trees. Raspberry is needed for feasts. |
Grain | Farms, merchant vendors | Includes Lentils, Beans, Barley, Wheat, and Peas |
Eggs | Vendors, bird nests | Common cooking ingredient for batters |
Staples | Merchant vendors | Salt, Sugar, Cooking Oil, Honey, Spices |
Water | Wells, water sources, merchants | Base ingredient for soups, drinks, and porridges |
Mushrooms / Herbs | Gathering in forests and fields | Oakwood Mushrooms for tea, Medicinal Herbs for tea and Palmar Pills |
Horns | Hunting deer and cows | Used in Long Horn Soup |
Always cook raw ingredients before eating them. Cooked food restores significantly more health than raw items. For example, raw meat restores 40 health while Grilled Meat restores 80.
Stock up on Grilled Meat before boss fights. At 1 raw meat per dish and 80 health restored, it offers the best resource-to-healing ratio in the early game.
For late-game encounters, craft Fishball Soup (+340 health) or Meat Soup (+280 health) for the strongest single-item healing available from standard recipes.
Prepare a Tart Special Meal before long boss fights for the 3-minute Stamina Cost reduction and massive Spirit refill.
Talk to innkeepers and food vendors in every town. They sell both recipes and ingredients that are harder to find in the wild. The butcher vendor in Hernand Town restocks daily at 0:00 game time.
When cooking Fish Porridge for Renee's Request, use the Improvise option at the cooking tool rather than selecting the recipe directly. The recipe list may default to a higher-tier variant that requires more ingredients.
Hunting is the most reliable free source of meat. Groups of 5 or more deer can yield 15 to 20 raw meat quickly.
Recipes can be sold after reading them since the knowledge is permanently learned.
Always carry at least one Palmar Pill as an insurance policy. The auto-revive can save a long boss attempt from going to waste.
Fire Resistance buffs from field grill dishes stack in usefulness against fire-element bosses and enemies. Ice Resistance from pot recipes helps against frost-based threats in northern Pywel.
