Oongka is one of three playable characters in Crimson Desert. He is a heavy-hitting bruiser and one of Kliff's most trusted Greymane companions, described as having "fierce combat skills and unwavering loyalty to Kliff." He is encountered during the Calphade chapter, fighting rebels alongside Marquis Stefan Lanford.
Where Damiane is fast and precise, Oongka is the opposite: a big, heavy-hitting bruiser whose attacks are slow but punish hard. He is the "barbarian" archetype -- an imposing warrior who embodies raw destructive power and specializes in breaking enemy lines.
Oongka's signature weapon. Devastating ground slams, spinning attacks, and wide-arc cleaves that hit entire groups. The axe can be spun in wide arcs to hit crowds and leaped with for aerial overhead strikes. A barbarian-style leap slam covers significant ground and deals massive area damage on impact. This is his most visually distinctive technique.
An alternative two-handed weapon shown in the Crimson Desert region during the Features Overview #2 trailer. The hammer's key mechanic is its ability to knock enemies into each other on impact. A charged swing sends multiple enemies flying at once. The longer you charge, the wider the devastation. This makes the hammer particularly effective in crowded battlefield situations where enemies cluster together.
A wrist-mounted device that fires incendiary bolts. The crossbow can be fired midair, which triggers a slow-motion aiming window -- a brief "John Woo-style" bullet-time effect that lets Oongka line up precision shots while suspended in the air. This slow-mo mode activates automatically during airborne attacks, giving a few seconds to pick targets before gravity takes over. On the ground, the crossbow fires at normal speed without the slow-mo effect. See Weapons & Equipment for full details.
Used for mining crystal deposits and other resource nodes found in the open world. Mining is not unique to Oongka -- all three playable characters can use tools to harvest materials. However, tools degrade with use and must be repaired or replaced over time. Crystal deposits have been shown yielding resources like garnet, which feed into the game's crafting system. In preview footage, Oongka was shown walking up to a glowing deposit, pulling out the pickaxe, and striking it several times to extract the materials.
Oongka can body slam enemies just like Kliff, using his massive frame to crush opponents. The body slam is a close-range grapple move that leverages his size advantage.
A barbarian-style leap slam where Oongka jumps into the air with his giant axe and crashes down on enemies below. This move covers significant ground and is devastating against groups. The leap slam is one of his primary gap-closers and AoE damage tools.
Oongka's entire moveset is built around fighting multiple enemies simultaneously. Wide-arc swings hit groups, hammer strikes knock enemies into each other, body slams flatten individual targets, and leap slams devastate clustered formations. He is the answer to every "there are too many enemies" problem.
Oongka has his own distinct armor sets separate from Kliff and Damiane. The Features Overview #2 trailer showed an outfit featuring:
Item | Details |
|---|---|
Pauldrons | Large shoulder armor pieces similar in style to Damiane's but sized for his larger frame. |
Helm | A heavy helmet matching the pauldron aesthetics. |
Gauntlets | Armored gloves suited to his brawling style. |
Pure black outfit | All pieces are on a dark, menacing black base that reinforces his intimidating presence. |
Oongka has his own independent skill tree. The skill menu UI in the Features Overview #2 trailer confirmed "Unka" as one of the character tabs. His progression is fully independent from Kliff and Damiane. See Artifacts for the respec system.
Like Damiane, Oongka unlocks through the main story. Once recruited, you can freely switch to him for exploration, side quests, faction content, and his own side narratives. Only Kliff can progress the main campaign.
