The Magic Scythe is a special Scythe tool in Crimson Desert. It is a scythe imbued with a strange power, developed by the scholars of Pororin Forest, said to react mysteriously whenever beauty is discovered in nature. The Magic Scythe has a much wider harvesting range than any standard scythe, allowing players to cut entire fields of crops, grass, and flowers in a single swing. It is widely considered the best tool in the game for alchemy ingredient gathering.
A large scythe used for harvesting crops or cutting grass. It can acquire a much wider range of crops than other scythes. Imbued with a strange power developed by the scholars of Pororin, it reacts mysteriously whenever beauty is discovered in nature.

Research Cost | 500 Silver |
Research Duration | 1 day 4 hours |
Acquisition | Dispatch mission from camp |
The Magic Scythe functions like a standard scythe in terms of controls, but its harvesting area is dramatically larger. Where a regular scythe cuts a small patch directly in front of you, the Magic Scythe sweeps through a wide arc that covers an enormous area. A single swing can harvest an entire field of flowers, clearing what would take dozens of swings with a normal scythe.
This makes the Magic Scythe incomparably faster than hand-picking for any gathering task involving plants, flowers, or grass. Players who focus on alchemy will find it indispensable, since many alchemy recipes require large quantities of plant-based ingredients that would otherwise take significant time to collect one by one.
The Magic Scythe is unlocked through the Research System at the Pororin Research Institute. Specifically, you need to complete the "Secret Tools of Life" research project (Project 2C in the Pororin research tree). This is the most expensive research project in the entire Pororin region, costing 500 Silver and taking 1 day and 4 hours of real time to complete.
Pororin Forest village is a hidden settlement that is not accessible from the start of the game. To gain entry, you must first uncover the whereabouts of the Shai children through story progression and exploration. Once you gain access to Pororin, speak with the lead researcher and bring 5 Lavender to initiate research projects. For a full breakdown of all available research, see the All Research Projects page.

Gain access to Pororin. Complete the prerequisite exploration to uncover the Shai children's location and enter Pororin Forest village.
Initiate Pororin research. Speak with the lead researcher in Pororin and provide 5 Lavender to unlock the research tree.
Research "Secret Tools of Life" (Project 2C). This costs 500 Silver and takes 1 day and 4 hours. It is the most expensive project in the Pororin region, so make sure you have a steady silver income before starting.
Complete the dispatch mission. After the research finishes, two new dispatch missions become available at your camp: "Magic Scythe Craft" and "Pororin Fishing Rod Craft." Send your Freeswords on the Magic Scythe Craft dispatch mission and wait for it to complete.
Pick up from your private chest. Once the dispatch mission finishes, the Magic Scythe will appear in your private chest at Greymane Camp. Collect it and equip it from your inventory.
Alchemy ingredient farming: The Magic Scythe is the single best tool for collecting plant-based alchemy ingredients. Flowers, herbs, and grass that would take minutes to hand-pick can be harvested in seconds with a few wide swings.
Crop harvesting: If you have a large farm at your camp, the Magic Scythe can clear your entire harvest in just a few swings instead of picking each crop individually.
Grass and flower fields: Open fields filled with flowers become trivial gathering spots. One swing can harvest an entire field that would otherwise require walking through and picking each flower by hand.
The "Secret Tools of Life" research project also unlocks a companion dispatch mission for the Pororin Fishing Rod, which is required for catching legendary fish. Both the Magic Scythe and the Pororin Fishing Rod are obtained through the same research project but require separate dispatch missions to craft. Plan your dispatch schedule accordingly, as each mission takes time and uses Freesword slots.
Tool | Dispatch Mission | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
Magic Scythe | Magic Scythe Craft | Wide-range crop and plant harvesting |
Pororin Fishing Rod Craft | Required for catching legendary fish |
The Magic Scythe's primary advantage over standard gathering tools is its greatly increased area of effect. When you swing the scythe, it gathers a large number of herbs in a wide radius around your character. This makes it dramatically faster than hand-picking individual plants, especially in herb-dense areas like flower fields and forest clearings.
However, much of the late-game farm content involves trees, ores, and other resources that cannot be harvested with a scythe. For that reason, the Magic Scythe serves best as a supplementary tool rather than a full replacement for other gathering methods. It excels at herb collection but does not help with logging, mining, or harvesting tree-based products.

The Magic Scythe is created through the Secret Tools of Life research at the Porin Research Institute. This is an expensive, finalized research option that represents a significant investment of resources. The same research line also unlocks the Porin Fishing Rod, making it a worthwhile investment for players focused on life skills.
To access the research, you first need to help the Porin Research Institute by progressing through the Porin Forest Guardians faction quest line. This faction unlocks access to the institute and its research options. The institute also offers the Efficient Gathering Research, a separate project that grants a chance to receive extra plants on each gather. Completing the Efficient Gathering Research is also needed to unlock dispatch missions at Dellayia's Tinkerton dig site.
The Magic Scythe serves as an alternative to the Cuckoo Gardening Pack. While the Cuckoo pack offers convenience through automated planting and harvesting, the Magic Scythe provides faster manual collection for players who prefer active gathering sessions.
Save up 500 Silver before visiting Pororin so you can start the research immediately. This is the most expensive single research project in the region.
While waiting for the research to complete, you can queue other Pororin research projects or focus on dispatch missions from your camp.
The Magic Scythe pairs exceptionally well with alchemy. Consider unlocking alchemy recipes that require large quantities of plant materials and then use the scythe to farm ingredients in bulk.
Even if you do not focus on alchemy, the Magic Scythe saves considerable time when clearing grass and weeds around your camp or when completing gathering-related quests.
Once you have the Magic Scythe, revisit areas with dense flower fields. The increased range makes previously tedious gathering spots highly productive.
Scythe | Range | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
Standard Scythe | Narrow (single patch in front of player) | Purchased from general merchants |
Moderate (slightly wider arc) | Crafted or purchased from farming vendors | |
Magic Scythe | Very wide (covers entire field in one swing) | Pororin Research + Dispatch Mission |
