The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex is a legendary ibex mount in Crimson Desert, widely considered the best non-horse travel mount in the game. Introduced as a permanent summonable mount in Patch 1.01.00, it is obtained by defeating the boss Moren, the Mistwood Huntmaster, in the Longleaf Tribe faction quest chain in Pailune. The ibex combines good raw movement speed (only surpassed by the three legendary horses) with a bounding gait that lets it handle awkward terrain, hills, and obstacles far more gracefully than any horse.
At Level 1, the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex has the following base stats:
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
400 | |
300 | |
Attack | 25 |
Evade | 50 |
1 | |
1 | |
Climb Speed Multiplier | 1 |
Swim Speed Multiplier | 1 |
Seats | 1 |
With 400 Health, 300 Stamina, and 50 Evade, the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex is a durable travel mount. Its 25 Attack is not combat-focused; the mount's value lies in traversal rather than fighting.
Unlocking the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex requires completing a lengthy multi-step quest chain. The prerequisites are:
Complete Chapter 7 and begin Chapter 8 of the main story to unlock the Pailune region.
Pailune Militia quests: Complete the full Pailune Militia faction quest chain, including "Crossroads of Succession," "Blooded Path," "Nest of the White Feathers," and "Dark Shadow."
Skoghorn Tribe quests: Complete the Skoghorn Tribe chain, including "Fire Breathing Pack" and "Deep Rooted Sorrow."
Longleaf Tribe quests: Travel to the Longleaf Forest region. Accept the bounty notice from "Concern of the Tannery" within the Longleaf Tribe quests, which triggers "The Sport Hunter" quest.
Fog Over the Forest: Complete the full chain leading to the boss encounter.
Defeat Moren: Face Moren, the Mistwood Huntmaster, north of the Ridge Hunter Tannery.
Moren is a two-phase boss encounter. After depleting his first health bar, Moren will flee. Track him via the red circle on your minimap for the second phase, which hits noticeably harder. Keep healing items ready for the second phase.
Defeating Moren drops the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horns. Take these to the Witch's House in the Witchwoods (southwest of Hernand) and speak to Elowen. She will craft the Sigil of Solidarity, which permanently registers the mount when used from your inventory.
The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex excels at traversal. Its bounding gait handles hills, rocky terrain, and obstacles smoothly. On flat ground, its speed is competitive with horses, falling just short of the legendary horses Royler, Rokade, and Camora. On uneven terrain, however, the ibex often outpaces horses because it does not slow down or stumble on slopes the way horses do.
As a permanent mount, the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex can be summoned at will, stored at stables, and called back after dismounting. This is a significant advantage over the temporary Ibex variant.
Ibex - The temporary ibex mount
Legendary Horses - Royler, Rokade, and Camora
White Bear - Another legendary mount from Patch 1.01.00
Silver Fang - The legendary wolf mount
Snowwhite Deer - The legendary deer mount
Rock Tusk Warthog - The legendary warthog mount
Mounts - All mounts in Crimson Desert
The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex sits at the end of the Spore Hunter side quest, which is only reachable after a long chain of faction quests that begin once you finish Chapter 7 and start Chapter 8. The steps below match the order used in popular community walkthroughs and should make the quest trigger reliably.
After clearing the black bears and claiming Paluun at the end of Chapter 7, return to the settlement and speak with Thorstein. He hands over Jan's Journal. Inspect the journal and read through the pages to register the knowledge. This step is optional for trigger purposes but is quick and cheap to do, so it is worth completing.
Open your journal, go to Faction Quests, and drop down to the Paluun Militia. Complete each quest in this order:
Crossroads of Succession (this one unlocks the rest)
Bloody Path
Nest of the White Feathers
Dark Shadow Engulfing the Fort
The Giant's Leap (leave this one for last)
Inside The Giant's Leap, the Fire Breathing Pack step sends you to a person looking for a gray man. They hand you a letter, and receiving the letter is what opens the next faction branch.
Once the letter is in your inventory, open the journal, find the Skugg Horn Tribe, and start the quest called Deep Rooted Sorrow. It points you to parents searching for their missing child, then escalates into a tough boss fight in White Horn. After the fight, return to the parents to close the quest.
Completing Deep Rooted Sorrow auto starts City in a Lightless Forest, which directs you to Longleaf Forest. Arriving at the forest ticks the objective and should surface the Spore Hunter side quest under the Longleaf Tribe tab.
To cement the trust requirement, complete the trial that uses green cores. Grab the green cores with your grapple hook and drop two of them into the baskets on the thin platforms. If the Spore Hunter quest still refuses to appear, travel to the Ridge Hunter Tannery on the map, clear the enemies there, and reclaim the land for the Longleaf Tribe.
Track the Spore Hunter quest. It marks a starting point where you pull up your lantern and follow the orange tracking line to Morwin the Misswood Huntmaster. The area is heavily fogged at night, so run the hunt during the day whenever possible. A blinding flash can help expose Morwin before he fires. Morwin uses a powerful bow and hits hard, so bring food and decent armor.
Defeat Morwin once, and he vanishes. Return to the original marker, track him a second time with the lantern, and take him down again. Some players report he does not fight back on the second encounter, which appears to be a known bug rather than a scripted event. After the second kill the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex horns drop into your inventory.
Head to any witch vendor, open Create Abyssal Gear, and spend the horns on the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex sigil. Use the sigil from your inventory, and the ibex becomes selectable from the mount wheel. See the Legendary Mounts Guide for how this mount compares to the other seven legendary mounts.
