Overview

Giath is a World Boss in Crimson Desert and the leader of the Wolf Trackers, a hostile faction of hunters who roam Pywel in search of prey. Giath is classified as a Boss Large Human enemy type and fights with a one-hand sword, making him a fast and aggressive melee combatant clad in a full set of heavy plate armor.

Giath stands out among Crimson Desert's roster of World Bosses due to his high base stats and full set of named equipment. With 2,160 HP, 210 Attack, and 100 Defense, he is a durable and punishing opponent who demands careful preparation before engaging. His right-hand subordinate, Gwen Kraber, serves as a captain of the Wolf Trackers and can be encountered separately at Roothold.

The character of Giath originates from the Black Desert universe, where he is known as the Goblin Chief. Both Crimson Desert and Black Desert are developed by Pearl Abyss and share elements of the same world, though Giath's role and backstory have been adapted for the Crimson Desert setting.

Equipment

Giath carries a full set of named plate equipment, with each piece bearing his name or the name of his predecessor. Goyen's Former Sword is notable because it belonged to Goyen, a significant boss encountered in Chapter 9 of Crimson Desert's main campaign. Sword Attacks

Giath's primary offense comes from Goyen's Former Sword. Expect horizontal slashes, overhead chops, and thrust attacks. He will chain multiple sword strikes together in rapid succession, so dodging just one attack is not enough. Players need to watch for the full combo sequence before attempting to counterattack.

Power Attacks

Without a shield to rely on, Giath compensates with heavy power attacks that deal massive damage and cannot be blocked. These unblockable strikes are telegraphed by a longer wind-up animation. When Giath winds up for a heavy blow, dodge immediately rather than attempting to block or parry. The attack covers a wide area and can punish players who are even slightly out of position.

Strategy

General Approach

Fighting Giath requires a patient, reactive playstyle. His 210 Attack means any mistake will cost a significant portion of your health pool. Wait for him to commit to an attack combo, dodge through the sequence, and then punish during his recovery window before backing off. Do not overcommit to more than two or three attacks during any opening, as Giath recovers quickly and will punish greedy players with a follow-up combo.

Dodge Over Block

Giath does not carry a shield, but his power attacks are unblockable. Dodging is the safer option against both his regular sword combos and his heavy attacks. Keep enough stamina in reserve for at least two consecutive dodges at all times. Running out of stamina during one of Giath's combo chains is almost always fatal given his 210 Attack.

Exploit Recovery Windows

After Giath finishes a multi-hit sword combo or a heavy power attack, he has a brief recovery period. This is the safest time to land counterattacks. Focus on dealing burst damage during these windows rather than trying to sustain continuous pressure. Heavy attacks and charged strikes are effective here, as you have time to wind them up while Giath recovers.

Build Stagger Progressively

Giath's Knockout threshold of 1,000 is high, meaning he resists stagger under normal conditions. Like most large humanoid bosses in Crimson Desert, he is susceptible to grappling. Grapple attacks contribute to his stagger bar, and filling the bar creates an extended damage window. Incorporate grapple attempts between dodge sequences to build stagger progressively throughout the fight rather than attempting to burst him down.

Bring Plenty of Healing

Giath's 210 Attack stat means his hits deal heavy damage. Bring a generous supply of healing food to the fight. At minimum, carry 50 or more Grilled Meat or equivalent healing items. The more healing you bring, the more room for error you have. You will take damage in this fight; the question is how efficiently you can heal between Giath's attack chains.

Wolf Trackers Connection

Giath leads the Wolf Trackers, a hostile faction in Crimson Desert described as a roaming band that scours Pywel in search of prey. The Wolf Trackers are not simply hunters; they are characterized as butchers addicted to the thrill of slaughter who traverse the land seeking increasingly dangerous quarry. More recently, the Wolf Trackers have become fixated on locating a legendary wolf spoken of in local lore.

The Wolf Trackers occupy several locations across Pywel, including Arroweye Posthouse, Bellanor Hunting Grounds, Spearhead Posthouse, Stormtalon Ridge Mine, Stormtalon Ridge Watchtower, and Vilkom Outpost. The faction starts at Hostile or War standing with the player and operates as an adversary throughout most of the game. House Celeste is actively working to drive back the Wolf Trackers around Hernand.

Gwen Kraber serves as Giath's loyal right hand and captain of the Wolf Trackers. She can be fought as a separate boss encounter at Roothold after the Wolf Trackers seize control of the fortress. Defeating Gwen Kraber during the Frozen Eldertree liberation quest (available during Chapter 6) drops the Frostfang spear and is a prerequisite for improving standing with House Celeste.

Lore

Giath's character originates from the Black Desert universe, where he is known as Giath, the Goblin Chief. Both Crimson Desert and Black Desert are developed by Pearl Abyss and are set in connected worlds, so Giath's lore carries across both titles. In Crimson Desert, Giath has been reimagined as the leader of the Wolf Trackers, but his roots in the shared Pearl Abyss universe give context to his character.

Origin

In the Black Desert lore, Giath was originally a human, not a goblin. He served as a centurion in an unnamed kingdom, possibly the old realm of Balenos near Cron Castle. His military career began with a mission to eradicate the imps located to the west, which he completed successfully. His accomplishments earned him widespread renown, and bards throughout the kingdom composed songs celebrating his achievements.

Betrayal

Giath's popularity bred jealousy among the king and the nobility. They conspired against him and assigned him an impossible mission that was intended as a death sentence. Against all expectations, Giath completed the mission and returned to the kingdom. Rather than receiving praise, he was accused of treason. The king cited the failure of Giath's father in a previous military campaign, declaring that the sins of the father had been passed down to the son. Despite his pleas of innocence, Giath was found guilty and sentenced to death.

Transformation

Imprisoned and facing execution, Giath was consumed by extreme fear and despair. In his darkest moment, the alchemist Caphras appeared and offered him what he desired. The Black Spirit consumed the dying man, and Giath was transformed into a creature that was neither fully human nor goblin. He continued to exist in the world, but with an unshakeable hatred for all humankind engraved in his heart.

The Goblin Chief

Known for his imposing, un-goblin-like physique, Giath became the Supreme Chief of the Goblins. He is constantly afflicted with nightmares from the wars of his past and is struck with agony at the mere sound of a drum beat, a lingering reminder of the military life he once lived. In the Black Desert timeline, he resides in a deeply secluded part of the Forest of Plunder in the Balenos region.

Tips

• Giath wields Goyen's Former Sword with no shield, so all of his offense comes from fast sword combos and heavy power attacks. There are no shield bashes to watch for.
