Overview
In Crimson Desert, Fast Travel is handled through the Abyss Nexus network, a series of shimmering rift points scattered across Pywel that let Kliff warp between discovered locations. As of patch 1.02.00 (April 4, 2026), activating an Abyss Nexus while riding a horse or other mount is not permitted, and the same restriction applies when Flight is active. Players must dismount or cancel Flight before they can warp, which has been a common friction point since launch.
Pearl Abyss has formally acknowledged this restriction and confirmed it is temporary. In the Patch 1.02.00 notice, the studio stated that the improvement allowing Abyss Nexus use while moving will be extended to mounted characters in a future update. No specific release date has been given, but the feature is listed as a planned change, not a suggestion under review.
Current Restriction Details
Situation | Can Use Abyss Nexus? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Standing still on foot | Yes | Default, always worked since launch |
Walking or jogging on foot | Yes | New in patch 1.02.00 |
Sprinting on foot | Yes | Covered by the 1.02.00 movement relaxation |
Mounted on a horse | No | Must dismount first |
Mounted on any other creature | No | Applies to all mount types |
Using the Flight skill | No | Must land and cancel Flight first |
In combat | No | Separate restriction, not affected by the planned update |
The restriction is a soft block. Attempting to interact with an Abyss Nexus while mounted simply does nothing, with no warp prompt appearing. There is no error message or cooldown penalty, so dismounting and immediately re-interacting works without delay.
Announced Future Change
From the official Pearl Abyss patch 1.02.00 notice, under the Abyss Nexus improvement entry: We improved the conditions for using the Abyss Nexus, allowing them to be used even while moving slightly except in certain situations such as while mounted or while using Flight. We plan to improve this further in the near future so that the player character can fast travel even while on certain mounts.
Two details in the wording are worth flagging. First, the phrase in the near future indicates this is a near-term roadmap item rather than a long-range goal. Second, the qualifier certain mounts (rather than all mounts) suggests the feature may not roll out uniformly across every rideable creature in the game. Pearl Abyss has not provided a timeline, patch number, or specific scope list beyond this statement.
Why It Matters
Player feedback in the weeks after launch repeatedly flagged the dismount requirement as one of the most disruptive friction points in the travel loop. Because horses in Crimson Desert have their own stamina, inventory, and bond systems, dismounting and remounting every few minutes has meaningful friction beyond a simple button press. Pearl Abyss's willingness to commit to the fix publicly fits the broader pattern of the 1.02.00 update, which expanded storage, added Headgear Visibility toggles, and addressed multiple other quality-of-life complaints from the first three weeks of launch.
Workarounds Until the Update
Workaround | How It Helps |
|---|---|
Dismount near the Nexus pillar | The soft block means there is no penalty, and the horse stays put while you warp |
Whistle to recall your horse after arrival | Your mount can be summoned at the destination if you have unlocked the horse whistle ability |
Plan routes around unlocked nodes | Identify which Abyss Nexus locations sit closest to quest objectives before mounting up |
Cancel Flight early | When descending toward a warp pillar, cancel Flight a few meters above ground |
Use on-foot traversal for short hops | If the destination is under 100 meters away, walking to the pillar is often faster than mount, ride, dismount |
Tips
Keep an eye on the official Pearl Abyss notice board and the in-game news feed for the patch that removes the restriction.
Players who rely heavily on the stamina system of their mount may want to prioritize Abyss Nexus discovery runs now, so that when the update lands their network of warp points is already fully unlocked.
If you are streaming or recording footage, note that the current dismount behavior looks abrupt on camera. Framing a warp as arriving on horseback will become possible after the update.
