Actions Speak Louder Than Words is a main quest in Chapter 1: The First Encounter of Crimson Desert. Villagers at Muckroot Ranch south of Hernand are struggling with a clogged chimney. Kliff volunteers to climb the roof and clean it himself after the homeowner, Arlan, falls off the roof trying to do it. This quest rewards the Hernandian Attire, a disguise outfit needed to enter Hernand Castle later in the chapter.

Head southeast from the Hernand Inn to the northern section of Muckroot Ranch. Follow the quest marker on your minimap. When you arrive, you will see Arlan and Lauren near a house. A short cutscene plays where Arlan tumbles off the roof.
Speak with Arlan and Lauren. Lauren explains that Arlan exaggerates every minor problem, but the chimney does need cleaning. Kliff volunteers to handle it.
Pick up the Broom leaning against the wall beside the house door. Equip it, then look for the stacked crates next to the house. Climb them to reach the roof. Stand directly on top of the chimney and hold L1/LB to aim down into it, then press R1/RB to sweep. The chimney clears after one cleaning action.
Climb down and speak with Arlan and Lauren to receive your rewards: 10 Lentils, 5 Apples, Hernandian Attire, a Medium Bag, and 100 Hernandian Contribution XP. Before leaving, check the crates behind the house to find a Palmar Pill.
The Hernandian Attire is critical for the Mystical Key quest. Without it, the guards at Hernand Castle will not let you pass, and the dialogue loop repeats until you equip it.
The Palmar Pill behind the house is easy to miss. It restores health and is useful for the combat encounters coming up in the Abyss.
This quest has no combat. It is a short, low-stress errand that rewards useful items.
The +100 Hernandian Contribution XP goes toward your standing with the Hernand region, which affects shop prices and NPC interactions.
When you arrive at Muckroot Ranch, a short cutscene plays automatically. Arlan is already on the roof attempting to clean the chimney himself. During the dialogue with Lauren, Arlan loses his balance and tumbles off the roof to the ground. Despite the dramatic fall, he is uninjured. Lauren explains that Arlan has a tendency to exaggerate every situation and turn minor problems into crises. This comedic moment establishes the lighthearted tone of this quest.
The Broom is a quest-specific tool leaning against the wall beside the house's front door. Pick it up and it automatically appears in your quick-use slot. To reach the roof, look for the stacked wooden crates on the right side of the house. Climb them by pressing the jump button near each crate to vault up. The crates form a natural staircase leading to the roof edge. Once on the roof, walk to the chimney in the center.
Stand directly on top of the chimney opening. Hold L1/LB to aim the broom downward into the chimney shaft, then press R1/RB to sweep. A single sweeping action clears the blockage. The chimney emits a puff of soot and the objective marker updates immediately. There is no mini-game or timing element here; it is a simple one-press interaction. Climb back down the same way you came up and speak to the couple to collect your rewards.
The +100 Hernandian Contribution XP earned from this quest contributes to your regional standing with the Hernand territory. Higher Contribution levels unlock discounted prices at local shops, additional dialogue options with certain NPCs, and access to region-specific side content. Early in the game, every Contribution XP source matters, so complete this quest even if you have already finished the other two Trials of Kindness quests.
After collecting your rewards from Arlan and Lauren, circle around to the back of the house. A Palmar Pill sits on top of the crates behind the building. This is a healing consumable that restores a moderate amount of health. It is useful for the combat encounters in the Abyss that come later in Chapter 1, so pick it up before leaving the ranch.
