Nyx is the cosmic catastrophe that drives the central plot of Alabaster Dawn. Once the world of Tiran Sol lived in peace under the gods. Then a curse called Nyx descended in a meteor shower, scoured the surface of life, and replaced it with a shadow-blighted wasteland. The gods retreated, humanity sealed itself underground in shelters, and the world entered a long silent age. Nyx itself remains, a presence rather than a single visible enemy, expressed through its physical agents: the Nuemera.
In the lost age that ended with Nyx's arrival, gods and humans coexisted across Tiran Sol. The curse came as a meteor shower, called Nyx after the shadow it cast over the world. The strike scoured the surface of life and warped what remained. The gods, sensing the curse could not be repelled directly, designated Twelve Chosen to wield divine power against it. The Twelve, including Dahmon, launched a counterattack but were ultimately defeated; the gods themselves vanished or retreated. Humanity took shelter underground in special shelters built to wait out the curse. Generations passed in that retreat before Juno awakened to take up the role of Chosen and emerge to a world that had largely been forgotten.
Nuemera are the curse's tangible expression: hostile creatures that infest the surface and prevent humanity from reclaiming it. They appear in many forms, ranging from common foot soldiers to airborne ranged variants and elemental sub-types. Juno fights them throughout the campaign; clearing them is the precondition for restoring any settlement.
Common Nuemera variants encountered in the launch Early Access build include:
Standard Nuemera. The base infantry-type enemy. Common in early areas and used to teach combat fundamentals.
Enraged Nuemera. Faster, more aggressive variants that fire short-range energy projectiles.
Fast Nuemera. Quick darting variants that punish slow weapon swings; vulnerable to parries and chakram returns.
Wasp Nuemera. Airborne variants with long-range stinger attacks. Reliable target for the ranged crossbow loadout.
Inferna Vespa. A larger boss-class flying Nuemera encountered in the prologue. Its stagger pattern teaches the game's break meter system.
Killing Nuemera also drops Essences, the crafting material used by Artificer NPCs to forge gems for gem crafting.
Nyx's curse manifests beyond enemy spawns. Affected zones lose plant life, turn ashen or shadow-blighted, and disrupt food chains, leaving settlements like Old Kamu Village abandoned. Reversing the curse is the central gameplay loop:
Clearing Nuemera in a region restores ambient safety.
Helping carpenters, farmers, and smiths rebuild structures (see Koro Valley) visually transforms the area on the world map.
Restoring food chains and trade routes returns life to formerly silent zones.
Completing elemental Trials grants additional Divine Arts that can suppress Nuemera variants previously immune to the player's loadout.
The settlement rebuilding system is therefore inseparable from the lore: Juno is not only fighting Nyx in combat, she is reversing the conditions that let the curse spread.
The Twelve Chosen were the original line of warriors selected by the gods to fight the Nyx curse. Most are lost or unaccounted for at the start of Juno's story. Those whose names appear in the launch build:
Dahmon. Player-controlled in the prologue. Led the original counterattack and fell with his allies when the gods retreated.
Nima and Eshrin. Allies of Dahmon who appear in the prologue. Their fates are tied to the loss of the original Twelve.
Juno o' Lira. The Outcast Chosen, awakened generations later. Carries the Divine Marble that grants god-blessing power.
Other Chosen are expected to appear or be referenced in later chapters.
Direct combat with Nyx itself is the long-term arc of the campaign. The launch Early Access build does not bring the player to a final confrontation; instead, each chapter reveals more of Nyx's reach, more of the lost gods, and more of the means to break the curse. The eight Divine weapons, the four elemental Divine Arts, and the rebuilt settlements are all presented as the slow accumulation of strength required to push back against the curse rather than a single climactic encounter.
Tiran Sol is the name of Alabaster Dawn's setting and the world ravaged by the Nyx curse. Before the curse, it was an inhabited continent under the gods; afterward it is largely empty, with the north described in dialogue as the Lost Lands. The Capital once stood near Tiran Sol's center, and is the only fragment of the ancient pre-curse world the launch build lets the player visit (during the prologue). Other named regions appear briefly in dialogue but are not yet on the playable map. Marketing material refers to a future eastern continent, Tiran Nua, as the origin of certain crops, but Tiran Nua is not currently visitable.
Nyx is most concentrated at points called Nests. A Nest is the source of corruption for a surrounding area; until it is dealt with, the area remains shadowed and overrun with Nuemera. Juno's main act of cleansing in Chapter 1 is weaving the Nest at Impact Site in the Koro Valley, which immediately lifts the local curse and allows nature and the village population to return.
Weaving is a Wise ability normally performed by support-class Chosen like Filia o' Marmis, but Juno is shown weaving Nests directly. Weaving also appears on smaller scale during fights, where Filia weaves enemy projectiles or interrupts Nuemera regeneration windows; these are localized uses of the same divine action. The Lost Lands are the section of the world most heavily blanketed by Nyx, with a presumed cluster of Nests still active there.
After Juno weaves the Nest near Lyhamn, the surrounding Nuemera do not vanish. They remain in the area, but their behavior shifts: instead of attacking on sight, they become passive and only fight back when provoked. This wrinkle suggests weaving does not destroy the Nuemera outright, only severs them from Nyx's direct influence. The implication for later chapters is that some Nuemera may stay in the world as a permanent ecological layer rather than disappearing entirely.
