Filia o' Marmis is a recurring partner character in Alabaster Dawn and a childhood friend of Juno. Like Juno, Filia was once selected by the gods for Chosen training, but she dropped out partway through and was discharged before the original calamity. Her abilities are reinstated at the start of Chapter 1 after she awakens from the shelter, and she travels with Juno from the Trial of Aether arc onward.
Personality
Where Juno is reserved and quiet, Filia is warm and talkative. She grew up in a large extended family and learned early how to care for and be patient with people. She does not handle silence well and will fill quiet stretches with small talk, an intentional contrast to the introverted protagonist. Her early relationship with Juno is described as a little frosty, but the campaign is structured so that the player and Juno warm up to her in tandem.
Wise Background
Filia trained as a Wise candidate. The Wise are a support and guide branch of the Chosen tradition, distinct from the combat-focused Valor branch that produced Juno. She did not complete training, but the divine power she received during her early studies remained dormant until she awakened. As a result, she is rusty: she remembers the basics but does not yet know advanced Wise techniques. Players see her relearn skills over the course of the demo, with her ranged combat becoming more reliable after a stretch of practice in the Trial of Aether.
Combat Role
Filia's combat skill set is intentionally limited compared to Juno's. She fills two roles:
Ranged projectile attack: Filia can hurl a divine projectile at enemies. Initially the attack has a very short range and deals zero damage on contact, so she rarely lands hits. After a stretch of practice during the Trial of Aether, her projectile becomes effective enough to reliably contribute, although it still does much less damage than Juno's basic attacks.
Weaving disruptive enemies: Filia can weave certain Nuemera attacks. The most useful in puzzle and combat scenarios is weaving the bomb projectile of a Rana Turri Fictus, which combined with Juno's hit converts it into an Impulse Orb that can disable Barrier Eye shields. She is also the only character who can interrupt the regeneration phase of the Nyx Avatar boss, which is what allows Juno to push it past its third HP gate.
Puzzle Role
Filia's biggest mechanical contribution is in puzzle rooms. By stepping onto a Wise Panel, she activates several puzzle entities that only exist when a Wise is present: Wise Switches, Wise Lorries, and Movable Blocks. These let Juno interact with components Filia weaves into being, and most of the multi-step puzzles in the launch build are built around the Juno-and-Filia tandem. A handful of one-off uses also exist: Filia briefly slows time once during a battle conversation moment, and she helps weave the Nyx Spire at Remis Rock when Juno cannot weave it alone.
