Story and Lore Teasers
September 15, 2026 at 08:09 AM
Initial version (2026-09-15)
The studio has published a layer of in-world fiction on its official community channel: companies, characters, shop brands, a radio station and a named tree. This page collects it in one place.
Read all of it as published lore and marketing fiction rather than as game content. None of the names below appears anywhere in the Steam announcement archive, the store page, any of the six numbered dev logs from the second test, any patch note, any bug list or any test report. Neither tech test presented any of them to players. Their presence in a playable build has not been confirmed, and this page exists so that they are recorded honestly in one place instead of being written up as features across many pages.
The most substantial piece of published lore, dated around December 2025, ties the catastrophe to a meteor strike and names the pathogen:
Hive Biotech was once a global pharmaceutical giant. After the meteor strike, they became heavily involved in mutant-sample research and selectively hid key information about the 'Red Rain Virus.' When the catastrophe hit, a handful of surviving scientists at the Wellmore Institute used what was left of their facilities to keep searching for a cure to the zombie virus.
A second post from around June 2026 adds one more line about the same event: Earth fears the asteroid, and one company made a fortune off it. These two passages are the only first-party text joining the meteor strike, the Red Rain Virus and the catastrophe together. The event itself is covered on Red Rain.
Everything in this table comes from the same source and carries the same caveat. No build status is given for any of it, because none has been shown in a build.
Name | Type | What the published lore says |
|---|---|---|
Hive Biotech | Company | A former global pharmaceutical giant that turned to mutant-sample research after the meteor strike and hid key information about the Red Rain Virus |
Dr. Schneider | Character | A named individual in the same lore material. No role is stated in the text available. |
Lucian Warren | Character | A researcher described as missing |
Wellmore Institute | Location | The facility where surviving scientists kept working on a cure for the zombie virus after the catastrophe |
The Wellmore region | Location | A region sharing the institute's name |
Matteor Company | Company | A company that profited from the asteroid rather than fearing it |
CATCARRIER | Brand | A named in-world brand |
Box Cat | Brand | A named in-world brand |
REDHILL Petroleum | Brand | A named in-world fuel company |
Speed Star Mart | Brand | A named in-world convenience store |
Knock Knock Pizza | Brand | A named in-world food outlet |
Zeverland Radio | Broadcast | An in-world radio station |
Osteoaks | Flora | Trees described as marking safe zones |
Bomb Zombie | Infected | An infected variant with an origin given in the lore material. See Special Infected for the variants the studio has named outside this fiction. |
A big-eared special infected | Infected | A sound driven infected variant |
The same material refers to server storyline finales and put the subject to a player survey. That phrase is the only first-party anchor for the idea that a Zeverland server reaches a conclusion at all. It sits alongside a separate and much earlier statement, made in a developer answer in November 2025, that there is no single ending but a clear direction and that player choices shape the world. Between them those two lines are the whole of the published record on how a playthrough ends. How servers are structured is covered on Servers and Multiplayer.
The lore layer will probably inform what eventually ships. A convenience store chain, a fuel company and a pizza brand read like set dressing for signage and for Looting and Scavenging, and an institute hunting for a cure reads like a story thread waiting for a quest line. The studio has also said that story reaches players through environmental storytelling, diary pages and radio messages, which is exactly the kind of delivery these fragments would fit, as covered on World and Map.
None of that makes any of it real yet. Nothing on this page has been shown in a build, named in a patch note or listed on the Roadmap. Until one of those happens, these names belong here and nowhere else on the wiki, and no page should be created for any individual entity above.
