Valkaru Beast
September 11, 2026 at 10:43 PM
Removed repeated body wikilinks, keeping the first occurrence of each target
The Beast is the caged champion The Valkaru summon onto the field, and it is the one unit in this pair of mercenary rosters that is neither built nor bought. It arrives through the group's top bar faction power for 22 power on a 120 second cooldown, having been unlocked by the War Vault. As with every mercenary unit it fights inside whichever main faction army contracted the group, since mercenary groups are hired partway through a match rather than played on their own.
A thousand health, 130 damage a swing, status resist 50 and the Massive tag put it in the heaviest weight class in the game. Summoning it is the single most dramatic thing a Valkaru contract can do, and the group's official description names it as their signature move.
Figures below describe the September 2026 Early Access build carrying the identifier ZS.c36778, and they move with a patch cadence that has been close to weekly since launch. Roughly half the versus roster had a stat touched in the fortnight before that build was captured, so read every number here as dated rather than permanent.
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
Cost | 200 hexite and 150 flux, plus 22 faction power for the summon |
Health | 1,000 |
Shields | 0 |
Armor | 1 |
Armor type | Heavy |
Status resist | 50, the highest figure on either mercenary roster in this pair |
Move speed | 575 |
Vision | 16 |
Supply | 6, though the Beast can still be summoned with no free supply |
Build time | None. The Beast is summoned through a faction power, not produced. |
Tier | Not published in the entity data. The Beast sits outside the tier ladder because it is summoned rather than teched to. |
Domain | Ground unit |
Tags | Massive |
Infuse cost | 19.375 |
Reanimate cost | 19.375 |
Replicate cost | 19.375 |
Summoned by | The Valkaru Beast top bar power, 22 faction power on a 120 second cooldown |
Unlocked by | Valkaru War Vault |
Weapon | Damage | DPS | Range | Cooldown | Targets | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Pulverizing Fists | 130 | 52 | 1.5 | 2.5s | Ground only | The ordinary melee attack |
Pulverize | 500 | Not published | 2 | None | Ground only | A heavy strike costing 6 power to use |
Five hundred damage from Pulverize is the largest single figure on any unit in either mercenary roster, and the absence of a cooldown on it is not a licence to spam: the limit is the 6 power each use draws from the same top bar pool that paid for the summon in the first place.
Ability | Effect | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|
Taunt | Forces nearby enemies to attack the Beast for 5 seconds, and grants the Beast 5 extra flat armour for the duration. | 20s |
Taunt and Pulverize are both talent gated. The Beast does not have either of them until Fallen Glory is taken at Valkaru faction level 6, which means a Beast summoned earlier in a match is a plain 1,000 health melee unit with a 130 damage swing.
The Beast is changed by the Valkaru talent line more than any other unit in the group, because two of the three entries affect it directly.
Level | Talent | Effect | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Hounds of War | An extra | spawns every time a mercenary squad is purchased. | |
4 | Relic Plating | All Valkaru units gain 1 flat armour and 25 percent health. | ||
6 | Fallen Glory | Valkaru units temporarily gain 15 percent attack speed when friendly units die nearby, and the Beast gains its Taunt and Pulverize abilities. This is the talent that turns the Beast from a large melee unit into a champion. |
Relic Plating at faction level 4 takes the Beast to 2 flat armour and 1,250 health, and Taunt stacks a further 5 armour on top of that for five seconds at a time, briefly putting it at 7.
Three factions can act on a unit that already exists instead of building a new one, and each pays out of the same top bar power pool. Infuse is the Grell mechanic, permanently raising a friendly unit's health, damage and regeneration for the rest of its life at a bonus of 45 percent since the balance pass of August 11, 2026. Reanimate is the Legion of Truth version, which speeds the unit up by 30 percent while it lives and stands it back up when it dies. Replicate is the Xol version, which copies an eligible allied unit outright.
The Beast is eligible for all three, and in this build the three prices are identical at 19.375 power each. See Resources and Economy for how the top bar pool fills.
Eligibility for Infuse is itself recent. The Beast could not be infused at Early Access launch and became eligible in the update of July 30, 2026, the same one that gave it a supply cost.
The Beast is a commitment rather than a unit in a composition. Fifty two DPS from the ordinary attack is respectable rather than remarkable, and the reason to summon it is the 1,000 health body arriving instantly in a place of your choosing, which is something no production queue can do.
With Fallen Glory taken it becomes something else. Taunt forces nearby enemies to attack the Beast for five seconds while it gains 5 extra armour, which is a hard counter to a focus fire army: the enemy spends five seconds shooting the most durable thing on the field while the Valkaru Flame Walker and the Valkaru Shock Trooper fire freely. Pulverize then adds a 500 damage strike against whatever the Taunt pulled into reach.
Its limits are the usual melee ones, sharpened by size. It cannot touch air, its 1.5 attack range means it has to be in contact, and 575 move speed is fast for its weight but not fast enough to catch anything built to run. The Massive tag also makes it a legal target for weapons that specifically hunt large units.
The Valkaru are written as a war driven society that enjoys fighting for its own sake, and the Beast is the literal centrepiece of that: a caged champion released onto the field. The other four Valkaru units come out of the War Vault as squads, and the Beast is unlocked by that same structure while being summoned from the top bar instead. See Resources and Economy for how the faction power pool that pays for the summon fills.
The Beast carries Heavy armour with a flat value of 1, which is modest for something this large, and status resist 50 to blunt the stuns and slows that would otherwise strip a slow melee unit of its value. Flat armour subtracts damage per hit with a floor of one damage, so the Taunt bonus of 5 for five seconds is worth far more against massed light attackers than against a single heavy weapon.
Massive is a tag rather than an armour type, in the same category as Flyer. It marks the largest things on the field, and in the current build it is carried by the Legion of Truth Terror Tank, Dreadnought, Monolith and Emperor Projection, by the Protectorate Strider and Sol Invictus, and by the Beast, which gained it on August 11, 2026. One concrete consequence sits on the other side of the mercenary roster: the Endari Devourer can only swallow non massive ground units, so a tagged Beast is out of its reach. Units covers the six armour types and the tags that sit alongside them.
Target | Why |
|---|---|
Focus fire armies | Taunt makes them spend five seconds on the most durable unit on the field while it gains 5 extra armour. |
Single large ground targets | A 500 damage Pulverize strike on top of 130 a swing. |
Stuns and slows | Status resist 50, the highest figure across both rosters in this pair. |
Threat | Why |
|---|---|
Air units | Neither Pulverizing Fists nor Pulverize targets air, and the Beast has no anti air option at all. |
Kiting | Attack range 1.5 on a 575 move speed unit that cannot force an engagement without help. |
Weapons that hunt Massive units | The tag it gained on August 11, 2026 makes it a legal target for anything built to punish the largest units on the field. |
July 30, 2026: supply cost increased from 0 to 6, though the Beast can still be summoned with no free supply, and it became eligible for Infuse. In the Campaign only, and listed separately from the versus changes, its damage was cut from 195 to 100.
August 11, 2026: gained the Massive tag.
August 28, 2026: gained the beast tag, and Arandi Empire Ethermancer Mind Control stopped being able to target Massive units.
The roster record for this unit is COMPLETE on every core field except tier, which the source publishes as blank. That is not a gap in the harvest: the Beast is summoned through a faction power rather than reached along a tech path, so it does not sit on the tier ladder the rest of the roster uses.
Two further values are absent and are left blank rather than guessed: the DPS of Pulverize, and any radius on Taunt beyond the word nearby.
Mercenary units carry no build time, and that is a property of the game rather than a gap in the record: they are hired rather than constructed, so the entity data publishes a price and a squad size but no production timer.
Two live conflicts between the two sources are recorded here rather than resolved. First, the entity data still marks the Beast as able to be mind controlled, while the dated studio note of August 28, 2026 says Ethermancer Mind Control can no longer target Massive units. Second, the entity data carries no beast tag on the Beast at all, while the same note says one was added. In both cases the studio note is treated as the authority on its own subject.
The beast tag is not a combat property. It feeds a Legion of Truth mechanic: Krag'vorn gains permanent extra damage and health whenever an allied beast dies anywhere on the map, and the August 28, 2026 update changed that from one stack per beast to one stack per 75 cost of the beast that died. A 350 cost Beast is therefore worth several stacks.
Per unit numbers are drawn from a community maintained entity catalogue that the studio links from each of its own faction pages. It is the only place a full stat block is published, so read the figures as careful community documentation of one build rather than as an official specification. Dated balance notes come straight from the studio patch posts and are stated as such.
