Skrell

Removed repeated body wikilinks, keeping the first occurrence of each target
The Skrell is the Grell light skirmish flier, a Tier 2.5 creature that hatches three at a time from the Broodwomb once a Skyclutch is standing. Six damage on a one second cycle sounds trivial until the bonuses are applied: +150% against air and +100% against Medium armour make it a specialist that punches far above 60 health.
Figures below describe the September 2026 Early Access build, the one carrying the identifier ZS.c36778, and they move with the weekly patch cadence. Roughly half the versus roster had a stat touched in the fortnight before that build was captured, so treat every number here as dated rather than permanent.

Infuse is the Grell conversion mechanic, paid out of the same top bar power pool as the Legion Reanimate and the Xol Replicate. It permanently raises a friendly unit's health, damage and regeneration for the rest of that unit's life. Since the balance pass of August 11, 2026 the bonus is +45%, down from +50%, and the cost multiplier rose from 0.045 to 0.05 so that it matches the Protectorate shield and the Legion Reanimate.
The Skrell is eligible for all three conversions at an identical 2.396 power each. At that price it is one of the cheapest conversions in the faction, and the +45% health takes a Skrell from 60 to 87, which is the difference between dying to one volley and surviving it.
The Skrell is a counter unit rather than a line unit. Against an enemy flier the +150% air bonus turns six damage into fifteen, and with three Skrell per order and one supply each a Grell player can put a lot of that on the field quickly. Against Medium armour the +100% bonus makes it twelve, which since August 11, 2026 covers every harvester and extractor in the game and makes Skrell a natural harassment unit as well.
Everything else about the unit is fragile. Sixty health with Light armour and no armour value means a Skrell dies to almost any dedicated anti air, and base attack range 1 means it has to be directly on top of what it is killing. Thoracic Sacs is the upgrade that addresses this, taking the range to 6 and turning the Skrell from a unit that has to touch its target into one that can hover at a distance. Volatile Acids works the other way, making the death of a Skrell cost the enemy 50 damage to nearby air, which rewards flying them straight into an enemy air ball.
Move speed 800 is the fastest in the Grell roster, so Skrell arrive and leave on their own terms as long as nothing shoots them on the way.
Skrell are produced at the Broodwomb but unlocked and upgraded at the Skyclutch, the Grell structure that also enables the Behemoth. That is an unusual split: the cheapest air unit in the faction comes out of the basic production building while its tech lives two structures away, which means a Skyclutch built for Behemoths also retroactively turns the Broodwomb into an air factory.
On August 19, 2026 the Skrell was one of twenty two units and structures moved onto the newer animation system already used by Commandos and Stingers, alongside the Harbinger and the Weaver. The studio reported large performance gains when many of them are on screen, which matters for a unit ordered three at a time.
The Skrell carries Light armour with an armour value of 0 and flies, so it is both fragile and restricted to whatever can shoot upward. Within the Grell roster only the Lasher, the Weaver and the Skrell itself can answer a flier at all.
Its own bonuses are the clearest example in the faction of how the armour and domain tables interact. The +150% bonus keys off the air domain rather than off an armour type, so it applies to any flier regardless of what armour that flier carries. The +100% bonus keys off Medium armour and so applies on the ground as well as in the air. The two stack on an enemy flier with Medium armour. A history note matters here: the Medium bonus is the replacement for an older +150% bonus against the harvester armour type, which was deleted on August 11, 2026 and folded into Medium.
Target | Why |
|---|---|
Enemy air units | +150% against the air domain raises six damage to fifteen per shot on a one second cycle. |
Harvesters and extractors | Medium armour since August 11, 2026, and the +100% Medium bonus doubles Skrell damage against them. |
Medium armoured ground units | The same bonus applies on the ground, including against Grell Keepers and Mandragoras in a mirror. |
Threat | Why |
|---|---|
Dedicated anti air | 60 health and Light armour with no armour value. A Skrell dies to almost anything that can shoot up. |
Heavy armour | No bonus applies, so a Skrell does its flat six damage a shot. |
Being caught at base range | Without Thoracic Sacs the attack range is 1, which means flying into contact to deal any damage at all. |
August 11, 2026: the damage bonus changed from +150% against the harvester armour type to +50% against Medium armour, when the harvester armour type was deleted and folded into Medium.
August 19, 2026: moved onto the newer animation system as part of a performance pass, with no stat effect.
August 28, 2026: health increased from 50 to 60, damage increased from 5 to 6, and the bonus against Medium armour increased from +50% to +100%.
The roster record for this unit is COMPLETE.
The +150% bonus against air and the bonus against Medium armour are two separate entries on the same attack. Older community notes that describe a single +150% bonus are describing the pre August 11 anti harvester bonus, which no longer exists in any form.
The Units hub records the August 11 change and stops there, at +50% against Medium. The August 28 balance pass raised that to +100%, which is the figure in this build.
Per unit numbers are drawn from a community maintained entity catalogue that the studio links from each of its own faction pages. It is the only place the full stat block is published, and it is not a studio document, so the figures are best read as careful community documentation of a build rather than as an official specification. Dated balance notes, by contrast, come straight from the studio patch posts.
