Seedling

Removed repeated body wikilinks, keeping the first occurrence of each target
The Seedling is the Grell builder: the Tier 0 unit that raises every structure the faction owns, and the only one of the four build units that is restricted by terrain. A Seedling can only build on biomass, which ties the faction's expansion to how far its mat has spread. It has no weapon.
Figures below describe the September 2026 Early Access build, the one carrying the identifier ZS.c36778, and they move with the weekly patch cadence. Roughly half the versus roster had a stat touched in the fortnight before that build was captured, so treat every number here as dated rather than permanent.

The Seedling has no weapon. It carries no attack entry of any kind in the unit data.
Infuse is the Grell conversion mechanic, paid out of the same top bar power pool as the Legion Reanimate and the Xol Replicate. It permanently raises a friendly unit's health, damage and regeneration for the rest of that unit's life. Since the balance pass of August 11, 2026 the bonus is +45%, down from +50%, and the cost multiplier rose from 0.045 to 0.05 so that it matches the Protectorate shield and the Legion Reanimate.
The Seedling is eligible for Infuse only, at a cost of 2 from the top bar power pool. That is the cheapest conversion in the faction, and it is the only one that changes what the unit is rather than simply strengthening it: an infused Seedling becomes a fast flying scout that keeps its ability to build. It carries no Reanimate and no Replicate price, so an allied Legion or Xol player cannot act on it.
The Seedling is cheap, fragile and slow: 20 health, 225 move speed, the lowest of both in the Grell roster. It is not meant to survive contact. Its value is entirely in placement, and the biomass restriction means that where a Grell player can build is decided minutes earlier by where Gatherers, Cultivators and Threshers spread mat. Losing the mat in an area retroactively cancels the ability to build there.
Infusing a Seedling is the cheapest conversion in the faction at a cost of 2 from the power pool, and it changes the unit rather than just buffing it: an infused Seedling becomes a fast flying scout that can still build. That makes it the Grell answer to scouting an unexplored map and to reaching a build site the mat has not yet grown toward. Its health as an infused unit was raised from 70 to 75 on August 11, 2026.
Seedlings come from the Bloomwell, the same structure that produces Gatherers and raises Feeder Vines. A Seedling can raise the full Grell list: Broodwomb, Incubator, Elderwomb, Young Canopy, Synapse Canopy, Cultivator, Bloomwell, Skyclutch and Nourishing Pod. Because Grell structures grow out of the biomass mat rather than being placed freely, the Seedling is the point at which the faction's territory rule becomes a build rule.
A hotfix on September 1, 2026 added an explicit error message when a Grell player tries to build with no Seedlings available, which had previously failed silently.
The Seedling carries Light armour with an armour value of 0 and 20 health, which puts it below every other unit in the roster except the Arkanid. Anything at all kills it, and armour type is close to academic at that health total. It carries no weapon and therefore no bonus.
Infusion changes the domain rather than the armour: an infused Seedling flies, which takes it out of reach of ground only weapons such as the Reaver scythes or an Arkanid swarm, and puts it in reach of anything with an air bonus, including the Grell's own Weaver and Skrell.
Target | Why |
|---|---|
Nothing | The Seedling has no weapon. |
Threat | Why |
|---|---|
Any weapon at all | 20 health and Light armour. A single hit from almost anything in the game removes it. |
Loss of biomass | Without mat, a Seedling cannot build, which makes denying biomass spread a way of disabling the unit without killing it. |
August 11, 2026: infused Seedling health increased from 70 to 75.
August 11, 2026: the Infuse bonus to damage, health and regeneration was cut from +50% to +45%, and the Infuse cost multiplier rose from 0.045 to 0.05.
September 1, 2026: an error message is now displayed when a Grell player attempts to build with no Seedlings.
The roster record for this unit is PARTIAL. The single field the source does not publish is cost, recorded as 0 hexite and 0 flux.
The Seedling is eligible for Infuse only. It carries no Reanimate or Replicate price, so an allied Legion or Xol player cannot act on it.
The unit data also tags the Seedling as a timed-life unit, which its own description does not explain and which no studio post has addressed. It is recorded here rather than interpreted.
Per unit numbers are drawn from a community maintained entity catalogue that the studio links from each of its own faction pages. It is the only place the full stat block is published, and it is not a studio document, so the figures are best read as careful community documentation of a build rather than as an official specification. Dated balance notes, by contrast, come straight from the studio patch posts.
