Marran Sharpshooter
September 11, 2026 at 10:26 PM
Initial version (2026-09-11)
The Sharpshooter is the ranged half of the opening The Marran purchase, a Tier 1 infantry unit that arrives three to a squad. Like every mercenary unit it is hired into a main faction army partway through a match rather than played on its own, so a Sharpshooter squad is an addition to a Protectorate or Grell or Xol force, never a replacement for one.
Its distinguishing feature is a siege mode. Firing Position roots the unit in place and doubles its range inside a limited arc while raising its attack speed by half, which turns a 12 range skirmisher into a 24 range emplacement that cannot reposition. At 80 health and 80 shields it is the most fragile thing the Marran field, so choosing when to root it is most of playing the unit well.
Figures below describe the September 2026 Early Access build carrying the identifier ZS.c36778, and they move with a patch cadence that has been close to weekly since launch. Roughly half the versus roster had a stat touched in the fortnight before that build was captured, so read every number here as dated rather than permanent.
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
Cost | 100 hexite and 200 flux for a squad of 3, which is 33.33 hexite and 66.67 flux each |

Armor type | Light |
Status resist | Not published in the entity data for this unit |

Vision | 18, the longest sight range on any Marran unit |
Supply | 3 |
Build time | None. Mercenary units are hired, not built. |
Tier | 1 |
Domain | Ground unit |
Infuse cost | 5.833 |
Reanimate cost | 5.833 |
Replicate cost | 5.833 |
Bought from | Marran Bulwark |

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Seeker Lance | 14 | 14 | 12 | 1s | Air and ground | +50% against Light armour |
Ability | Type | Effect | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
Firing Position | Siege mode | Gain 100 percent extra range and 50 percent extra attack speed against units inside a limited arc. The Sharpshooter cannot move while deployed. | Not published in the entity data |
Deployed, the Seeker Lance reaches 24 rather than 12, and the one second cooldown becomes roughly 0.67 seconds. That is the largest range swing available to any Tier 1 unit in the game, bought at the price of being unable to retreat from the position you chose.
No upgrade targets the Sharpshooter directly. The Marran talent line, offered at faction levels 2, 4 and 6, is what changes it.
Level | Talent | Effect | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Life Path | Experience gain increased by 30 percent. | ||
4 | Pulse Capacitors | Passive power gain increased by 200 percent and range increased by 20 percent, taking the undeployed Seeker Lance from 12 to 14.4. | ||
6 | Bulwark Amplification | Bulwark move speed increased by 50 percent, Pulse Barrage loses its power cost, the Bulwark generates shields on nearby damaged units, and three | unlock and spawn. |
Three factions can act on a unit that already exists instead of building a new one, and each pays out of the same top bar power pool. Infuse is the Grell mechanic, permanently raising a friendly unit's health, damage and regeneration for the rest of its life at a bonus of 45 percent since the balance pass of August 11, 2026. Reanimate is the Legion of Truth version, which speeds the unit up by 30 percent while it lives and stands it back up when it dies. Replicate is the Xol version, which copies an eligible allied unit outright.
The Sharpshooter is eligible for all three, and in this build the three prices are identical at 5.833 power each. See Resources and Economy for how the top bar pool fills.
Undeployed, the Sharpshooter is an ordinary 12 range skirmisher that happens to hit air. Deployed, it is a siege piece. The practical use is defensive: root a squad of three behind a line of Marran Badger or main faction tanks and they outrange nearly everything the enemy can bring to bear, at a combined 42 damage per volley before bonuses.
The 50 percent bonus against Light armour is new as of August 28, 2026 and points the unit at cheap infantry and light fliers, the two things most likely to try to run past a Marran line rather than trade with it. Against Light targets the Seeker Lance does 21 a shot.
The cost of all this is 80 health and 80 shields with Light armour of its own. A deployed Sharpshooter that gets flanked cannot leave, and three of them die to almost any concentrated attack. The unit is meant to be positioned, not manoeuvred.
The Marran are built around making distance expensive, and the Sharpshooter is the clearest statement of that. It supplies the range, the Marran Halo Tank supplies the punch at 14 range, and the Badger supplies the debuff that makes both of them land harder. All five Marran units are produced from one mobile structure, the Bulwark, and the group's single commander, Hel, is herself a long range hero rather than a frontline one. See Heroes and Commanders for how commanders are chosen and how they rebuild after dying.
On August 19, 2026 the Sharpshooter was one of twenty two units moved onto the newer animation system already used by Commandos and Stingers, alongside the Heavy Trooper. The studio reported large performance gains when many of them are on screen, which matters for a unit bought three at a time. The same late August update added a death animation for the Sharpshooter.
Light armour with no published flat armour value is the worst defensive combination in the game for a unit that has to stand still. Flat armour subtracts damage per hit with a floor of one, so a unit without it takes fast weak attacks at full price, and a deployed Sharpshooter cannot walk out of them.
Its own Light bonus does not stack with anything else on the weapon. The Seeker Lance carries exactly one bonus entry and it keys off armour type rather than domain, so it applies to a Light ground unit and a Light flier equally. Units covers the six armour types in the current build.
Target | Why |
|---|---|
Light armoured infantry and fliers | The 50 percent bonus takes 14 damage to 21, on a one second cycle, from three units per purchase. |
Anything that has to approach a defended position | Deployed range 24 means the approach is fought entirely on Marran terms. |
Air units generally | The Seeker Lance hits both domains, so a Sharpshooter squad doubles as anti air without a separate purchase. |
Threat | Why |
|---|---|
Flanking and drops | A deployed Sharpshooter cannot move, and 80 health with Light armour does not survive being reached. |
Splash damage | Three units bought together stand together, and none of them has a published flat armour value to blunt repeated hits. |
Heavy armour | No bonus applies, so 14 a shot against something built to absorb it. |
August 19, 2026: moved onto the newer animation system as part of a performance pass, with no stat effect.
August 28, 2026: the bonus against Light armour was introduced, raised from none to +50 percent. A death animation was added in the same update.
September 1, 2026: health and shields each reduced from 100 to 80, and damage reduced from 15 to 14.
The roster record for this unit is COMPLETE on every field the source publishes. Three values are absent from the entity data and are left blank here rather than guessed: the flat armour value, the status resist value, and any cooldown on Firing Position.
Mercenary units carry no build time, and that is a property of the game rather than a gap in the record: they are hired rather than constructed, so the entity data publishes a price and a squad size but no production timer.
The The Marran page still carries the pre September 1 figures of 100 health and 100 shields. The 80 and 80 on this page are the current build values.
Per unit numbers are drawn from a community maintained entity catalogue that the studio links from each of its own faction pages. It is the only place a full stat block is published, so read the figures as careful community documentation of one build rather than as an official specification. Dated balance notes come straight from the studio patch posts and are stated as such.
