In-Game Description

Standard paint for Brethren of the Coast ships. Hard to tell whether it's wine spilled on the planks, or enemies' blood soaked into the wood.

Cosmetic Effect

This design is purely cosmetic. Like every ship customization option in Windrose, it is stat neutral: it changes how the vessel looks but gives no bonus to speed, cargo, hull strength, or rigging. The only thing it changes at sea is the impression your ship makes on rival crews who recognise the Brethren of the Coast colours.

How to Apply

Bring the ship to a Shipwright-built Wharf, open the customization menu, and select the matching hull slot. Wine & Blood appears in the option list once the unlock condition (Style Book or stock availability) is met.

Unlocked by reading the matching Style Book, sold by the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner. Style Books for the Brethren of the Coast are priced in Guineas, not Piastres, and gated behind reputation tiers.

Style Books and Unlocking

Designs in Windrose are not equipped from your inventory. They are added to your Wharf customization menu by reading a Style Book, a one time consumable that is bound to your character rather than to a base or crew. Reading the book consumes it and unlocks every design it contains permanently.

The relevant book here, Style Book: Brethren Hull Colors, is sold by the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner. Faction Style Books are priced in Guinea, the premium currency, not in Piastres, and the Provisioner only stocks them once your standing with the faction has climbed high enough. Building Brethren of the Coast reputation through their contracts and bounties is what opens the cosmetic shelf.

Compatible Ships

This cosmetic name appears in the database under the Brig-class entry, but the underlying design is shared across Brig, Frigate, and Ketch hull classes. Once the Style Book is read, the option is available for every ship class your character has built or unlocked.

It pairs naturally with the matching sail set from the same faction if you want a unified deck. To switch back later, return to a Wharf and choose another unlocked colour; nothing is lost by changing your mind.
