The Vault Key is a late-game key item used to open vault-tier chests at fortified Blackbeard sites and Senkamati strongholds. The vaults it opens hold the highest-density loot pools in the game outside of named boss arenas.

Vault Keys drop from named lieutenants at fortified Blackbeard Outposts and from quest reward caches. The drop is rare; one key opens one vault, so plan the route to maximise the per-key payout before you spend it.
Vault chests often contain Recipe Papers, Munitions stacks, and high-tier Plans: Tempered 36-Pounders-grade plans. Save Vault Keys for known late-game vaults rather than the first sealed chest you find.
Windrose uses several single-use keys, each tied to a different lock tier. The Reliquary Key opens reliquary caches, the Door Key clears locked doors, and the Arsenal Key breaks the padlocks on arsenal chests in pirate camps. The Vault Key sits at the top of that ladder, reserved for the most heavily defended stashes.
