The List of Essentials is the boat-prep checklist written by Bram and Mitchell before they leave Norman behind on the shipwreck island. The note is the counterpart to Norman's Diary Fragments: where Norman writes about cursed ruins and night terrors, Bram is matter-of-fact about supplies and ready to ditch his unstable crewmate.

That's about it.

We've got all we need for the boat. Tomorrow, Bram and I will nail it together and get out of here. While Norman can stay here and die.

He sits around all day carving those cursed little charms. Witchy junk. Superstitious idiot. Completely cracked from fear of the ruins.

Woke up yesterday and the lunatic was standing over me with an axe.

Right. My axe. Forgot it. Where did that idiot take it?

The Checklist

Bram's list names the four basic materials a small escape boat needs. Each of these is also a real crafting resource in the live game, so the note doubles as an in-world nod to the early-game gathering loop every player runs through:

The wood for the planks comes from Timber, the same raw material players harvest for early structures and ship parts. The note does not function as a recipe in your own inventory; it is a readable lore item, not a blueprint.

How to Obtain

The List of Essentials is a lore note recovered on the shipwreck island where the Norman story plays out, in the same cluster of containers and ruins that yields the Diary Fragments. Like other lore notes it appears as an uncommon container drop rather than a guaranteed pickup, so it may take several passes through the area to find. It cannot be crafted or purchased and has no combat or crafting value once collected.

Lore Significance

Bram's casual line 'Norman can stay here and die' confirms Norman was abandoned, not lost. The 'cursed little charms' reference matches the protective charms Norman describes carving in his second Diary Fragments entry, the same charms Bram and Mitchell laughed at. The note ends with Bram noticing his missing axe, an open thread that the diary fragments themselves never resolve, which leaves the question of what Norman intended to do with it deliberately unanswered.

Reading the List of Essentials alongside the Diary Fragments gives both sides of the same falling-out: the abandoned man writing about dread and superstition, and the practical crewmate who saw that superstition as a reason to leave him behind. It is a compact example of how the game tells its background stories through paired notes left by different hands.
