Add note that Copper Pickaxe is required to mine Foothills Iron Ore from kWoEKd2Tzc4 transcript
The Copper Pickaxe is Windrose's first metal pickaxe. The live item page gives it 100 attack, calls it a decent alternative to a Stone Pickaxe, and says it is crafted at the Workbench from Copper Ingots and Wood.

It is better than the Stone Pickaxe.
It still struggles with tougher stone, which is the game's blunt way of telling you copper is a bridge rather than the final answer.
It is one of the cleanest first uses for Copper Ingot once your first furnace line is online.
The Copper Pickaxe is the first point where the mining chain starts feeding itself. You smelt copper to make a better pickaxe, then use that better pickaxe to push toward the next material wall. It is a small craft on paper, but it marks the moment a world stops feeling stuck on beach-level scavenging.
Copper Ingot - the metal input behind the recipe
Iron Pickaxe - the next mining step once the iron chain is online
Crafting - the larger station and upgrade ladder around the tool chain
Getting Started - the route that gets you to copper quickly in a fresh world
The Copper Pickaxe is not just an upgrade over the Stone Pickaxe; it is the specific tool required to mine Foothills Iron Ore. A Stone Pickaxe will not register hits on iron deposits in Foothills quarries, so until the copper tool is crafted, the entire iron chain (and everything downstream: Foothills Iron Ingot, the Iron Pickaxe, sulfur access, gunpowder) stays locked.
Practical order of operations: once the first Smelting Furnace is producing copper ingots reliably, pour the first 5 ingots into a Copper Pickaxe before anything else. Tools, weapons, and station upgrades will all still be there when you come back, but the iron route does not open at all without this one craft.
