Closed Scallop Shell
April 19, 2026 at 11:11 AM
Clarified that scallop shells do not actually yield pearls on open; Pearls come from Drowned variants and Thorn Fiddlers per the live drop table
It might contain a pearl.
Closed Scallop Shell is a Common miscellaneous item in Windrose. Scallop shells are found on beaches and drop in bulk from the Ashlands Ruins starting chest. The scratched tooltip reads "Found on the beach," and the second flavor line ("It might contain a pearl") describes the item's purpose: opening a closed scallop does not actually drop a Pearl in the current build. Pearls come from Drowned variants and Thorn Fiddlers at a 30% rate, and from a handful of guaranteed POI chests. The scallop shell's tooltip reference is flavor text rather than a live harvesting hint.

Closed Scallop Shell is not bought or sold by any vendor. The value of the shell comes from opening it in inventory.
The Ashlands Ruins starting chest is the guaranteed source. The drop is a full 20-shell stack on the first open, which fills one inventory slot in a single pickup.

Closed Scallop Shell is primarily a decoration and flavor pickup. Despite the tooltip's pearl reference, Pearls in the live build drop from Drowned variants and Thorn Fiddlers at 30%, not from opening the shell. Hold on to the shells as a crafting stub for any future use the game exposes in later Early Access updates.
Because the stack limit is 20 and the starting chest overflow is also 20, the one-slot inventory footprint is convenient for stockpiling between visits to craft stations.
Combine scallop shell runs with Coin Pouch opens from the same chest for a single post-pickup inventory pass.
Closed shells can also be found on the beach as foreground clutter, not just in the starter chest. A sweep of coastal sand on a new island usually surfaces another two or three shells to add to the stack.
Opened shells (pearl or empty) cannot be re-closed. There is no reset mechanic, so the shell is consumed once opened.
