Bones are a Common resource in Windrose. They are a stackable crafting material with item level 3, dropped by creatures and gathered from skeletal remains scattered across the islands. Bones are milled into Bone Meal at the Millstones.

Bones come from two reliable sources in the live build:
Creature drops. Many animals and undead enemies leave Bones when killed. The Drowned that patrol shipwreck decks and shorelines are a dependable farm, since they spawn in clusters around wreck sites.
Skeletal remains. Bleached skeletons lie scattered on the ground across the islands, often grouped together. Harvest the pile directly to collect Bones without a fight, which makes overland sweeps a fast way to top up a stack.
Bones are gathered by hand, so no special tool is required to pick them up.
Bones are processed at the Millstones, which grind raw materials into refined goods. Five Bones mill into Bone Meal in about fifteen seconds. The table below lists the confirmed consumer; additional recipes may exist in the build but are not cataloged here yet.

Weight is 0.2 per unit, so a full stack of 30 weighs 6. Factor that into inventory capacity on long gathering runs.
Mill Bones into Bone Meal before a building session rather than hauling raw stacks, since Bone Meal stacks smaller but feeds station and structure recipes.
Clear skeletal remains whenever you pass them; they cost nothing to grab and the supply adds up faster than a single combat farm.
