Boar Bristle is a hull paint cosmetic for ships in Windrose. The paint is applied at a player-built Wharf through the Manage Ship menu's Customization tab. Once unlocked, the paint can be repainted onto any ship the player owns at no Guinea cost.
Black and light orange tones, inspired by the wild boars that roam through the jungle.
Unlocked by reading the matching faction Hull Colors Style Book, sold by that faction's Provisioner. Reading the book permanently adds the paint to the Wharf customisation menu for that character. Style Books for hull paints are typically priced in the 30 Guinea range.
Sail the ship to a Wharf and dock it. Open the Manage Ship menu, switch to the Customization tab, and select Hull. The unlocked paints appear in the option list and previewing one swaps the live ship model immediately. Confirm to apply; there is no Guinea cost on application.
Boar Bristle is purely cosmetic. It changes only the colour of the ship's hull and has no effect on speed, cargo, hull health, or any combat stat, so it can be applied to a Ketch, Brig, or Frigate without changing how the vessel handles. Despite the name, it is not crafted from boar parts and is not a drop from the Boar; the title simply refers to the black and orange colourway that recalls a wild boar's coat. Once the Style Book is read, the paint is unlocked permanently for that character and can be swapped freely at any Wharf.
The unlock is per character, not per ship, so a single Style Book purchase covers every vessel you own.
Reapplying a paint costs nothing, so it is safe to experiment: preview each option on the live model at the Wharf before you confirm.
Hull paints are tied to faction Style Books, so check each faction Provisioner if you are hunting a specific colourway.
