Black Mark is a thin black metal token used as a quest turn-in item in Windrose. In pirate folklore the black mark, or black spot, is a death warrant served by one outlaw to another, and the in-game token plays the same role for the Revenge is Best Served Cold quest line, which asks the player to recover four of them before the Thomas Richards boss encounter can begin. The collection step itself is tracked as the Black Marks quest.

In-Game Description

A thin black metal token, an ill omen, marked with a grinning Jolly Roger.

A second flavour line on inspection reads: "Black Mark? That's a summons, mate, an invitation straight to the Devil." The grinning emblem stamped on the token is the same Jolly Roger skull motif used across pirate iconography in the game.

Where to Find

All four tokens are gathered during the Black Marks collection quest, handed out by Doctor Galen as the intel-gathering step that pinpoints Richards's location. They are recovered across the Blackbeard Waters region around the Coastal Jungle biome, split two plus one plus one across three different sources rather than dropping from a single enemy. The tokens are stored in containers tied to Blackbeard strongholds and themed enemy positions, so the live quest text and its map markers are the most reliable guide. Because exact spawns are seeded by world generation, follow the quest pointer rather than memorizing a fixed spot.

Reward

Turning in the four tokens advances Revenge is Best Served Cold and unlocks the Thomas Richards fight. Completing the collection step also grants experience and, among its rewards, Thomas Richards' Journal, which adds further lore on the rift between Richards and Israel Hands.
