Stealth is a full gameplay system in Varsapura, not an afterthought. The 31-minute demo showed the protagonist using cover, backstabs, and silent umbrella glides to approach enemies without triggering direct combat. This makes Varsapura the first HoYoverse game with dedicated stealth mechanics.
Confirmed mechanics
The demo showed these stealth abilities in action:
Crouching behind cover objects to break enemy line of sight
Backstab kills on unaware enemies from behind
Silent umbrella glides from elevated positions for overhead drop attacks
A stun ability that briefly incapacitates enemies if the player is spotted, buying time to re-enter stealth or transition into combat
Detection system
Enemies have awareness states with visual detection indicators. When an enemy begins to notice the player, a warning appears on screen. If fully detected, the game transitions into open combat. The stun ability gives players a brief window to deal with the situation before the enemy raises an alarm.
Integration with the open world
The City of Rain's multi-level architecture supports stealth approaches. Players can use dark alleyways, rooftops, and building interiors to avoid or flank groups of enemies. Some encounters can be cleared entirely through stealth. Others give players the choice between a quiet approach and going in loud.
Open questions
The demo confirmed stealth works but left several details unanswered: whether specific characters have stealth-focused ability kits, whether there are dedicated stealth tools beyond the umbrella, how enemy AI patrol routes and investigation behavior work in the full game, and whether stealth performance affects mission ratings or rewards.
