This guide covers what to know about Varsapura before it launches, based on the 31-minute gameplay demo (November 2025), developer interviews, and official press materials.
What kind of game is this?
An open-world supernatural action RPG set in a modern city based on Singapore
Developed by miHoYo / HoYoverse on Unreal Engine 5 with photorealistic graphics
Gameplay combines action combat, stealth, driving, and a dialogue skill check system
Players join SEAL (Shadow Emergency Alliance) as a Hollowone to fight Mindrot threats
Frequently compared to Remedy's Control, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and L.A. Noire
Core concepts
Mindrot is the main threat: a tar-like substance from humanity's collective unconscious that spawns shadow creatures
Hollowones are the playable characters with supernatural abilities
SEAL is the Shadow Emergency Alliance, the organization that employs Hollowones
The City of Rain is the perpetually rainy open world, modeled on Singapore
Cognosea events are the supernatural emergencies SEAL responds to
Combat basics
You control a party of 3 characters but play as one at a time. Swapping between them is instant and triggers combo chain attacks called Cooperative Techniques. Each character has normal attacks, one skill, and one ultimate. If you have played Zenless Zone Zero, the party system will feel familiar, though Varsapura's combat has a heavier, more realistic feel.
Dialogue matters
Varsapura has a dialogue skill check system with Persuasion, Deception, and Empathy options. This is new for HoYoverse and means conversations can have real consequences beyond flavor text. If you enjoy the dialogue systems in Baldur's Gate 3 or Disco Elysium, this is worth paying attention to.
