Eclipse Glow Games is an independent video game studio headquartered in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Tides of Annihilation is the studio's debut title. Tencent owns approximately 90% of the company, providing financial backing and publishing support for the global release.
The team consists of over 100 developers drawn from AAA studios across Asia and Europe. Staff members have credits on franchises including Yakuza, Assassin's Creed, For Honor, Persona, and Prince of Persia. This mix of Japanese action game expertise and Western open-world experience directly shapes the combat and world design of Tides of Annihilation.
Kun Fu is the Lead Game Producer. He has spoken publicly about the studio's design philosophy, describing the combat as "stylish action" with spectral knights that feel like true allies rather than expendable tools.
Ary Chen serves as Co-CEO and COO, handling the business side of the studio's operations.
Tencent green-lit the project in November 2021, giving the game roughly a five-year development cycle. The studio built the game on Unreal Engine 5 with Nanite and Lumen from the start, betting on next-generation hardware. The first public reveal came in February 2025 during Sony's State of Play, followed by an extended gameplay showcase at Xbox Partner Preview in November 2025.
According to leaked information that has circulated online, an expansion is already in development alongside the base game. A co-op mode is also reported to be in the works. The studio has not officially confirmed these plans.
The studio deliberately chose Arthurian legend to appeal to Western audiences, contrasting with Tencent's other major investment, Black Myth: Wukong, which targeted Chinese players through Journey to the West mythology. The developers described their position as offering "a completely new perspective to the setting and story, while being absolutely respectful to the culture and subject matter." At GDC 2025, co-CEO Ary Chen confirmed the game had been in development for over three years at that point.
Eclipse Glow is part of a wave of Chinese studios building high-budget action games for global audiences. Their international hiring strategy, pulling talent from studios like Ryu Ga Gotoku, Ubisoft, Gameloft, and Atlus, distinguishes them from studios that rely primarily on domestic talent.
