The Prologue Demo is a free, standalone demo for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, released on May 19, 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Save data from the demo carries over directly to the full game, meaning progress, weapons, and magicite collected during the demo are not lost at launch.
The Prologue Demo covers the opening chapter of the game's story and provides the same freedom of exploration as the full version within its scope. In the demo, players can:
Progress through the opening main quest
Explore the world of Philabieldia within accessible areas
Hunt for more powerful weapons off the beaten path
Collect magicite fragments and form them at shops
Fight the demo's boss encounter, the Tag Guardians
The demo does include limits on accessible areas compared to the full game. Some regions of the world are locked until launch. The official description notes it is "the retail version of the game with some differences, such as limits on accessible areas."
Any progress made in the Prologue Demo carries over to the full game automatically. This includes story progress, discovered areas, weapons found, magicite collected, and tul (the game's currency). Players who invest time in the demo before launch will have a head start. See Getting Started for tips on making the most of the demo hours.
Before the Prologue Demo, Square Enix released a separate Debut Demo on July 31, 2025, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. This earlier build offered approximately 90 minutes of gameplay and was accompanied by a feedback survey open through September 30, 2025. The Debut Demo was a separate, earlier build; save-data carry-over to the full game has been confirmed for the Prologue Demo.
The Prologue Demo incorporates several improvements made in direct response to that feedback survey, making it a meaningfully different experience from the 2025 build.
The following changes were made to the full game and reflected in the Prologue Demo, based on responses to the Debut Demo survey:
Four difficulty options added: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard (see Accessibility and Options)
Faster base movement speed for Elliot across the overworld
Single-button weapon switching during combat
Simplified magic selection for Faie
Weapon-specific magic equipment boxes added for clarity
"Leave it to Faie" automatic magic equipping option, letting the game choose Faie's magic automatically
Single-button map access (previously multi-step)
These additions reflect a developer emphasis on accessibility and convenience without reducing the depth of the combat system for players who want full control.
