Voices From Beyond is a five-episode short-form audio drama set in the Subnautica 2 universe. Produced by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, it functions as a narrative bridge to Early Access, distributed through the official news blog and Steam announcements. The series concluded with Episode 5 ("Mayday") on March 26, 2026.
Story
The series follows a Mongolian family of three (a father, mother, and their newborn daughter) as a crisis spreads across the Ariadne Arm. The narrative is told primarily through diegetic audio: radio broadcasts, news bulletins, podcasts, and personal recordings. This format mirrors the data-log presentation the games use for in-world storytelling. Across five episodes, the family's hope of reaching Planet Zezura as Pioneers takes shape, then collapses as a deep-space distress call from the colony vessel rewrites the picture.

3 | Pioneer | January 29, 2026 | Havoc spreads across the Ariadne Arm. The episode asks whether Zezura represents hope for the family, providing the clearest in-universe tie to Subnautica 2. |
4 | Lost | February 26, 2026 | Opens with a quiet moment between mother and daughter before a radio bulletin breaks the calm. A character asks "was it negligence at Alterra? Some kind of miscalculation?" The episode establishes the corporate accountability question that frames the broader story. |
5 | Mayday | March 26, 2026 | Series finale. A distress call from Cicada (the colony vessel, designated ISV Cicada in-fiction) follows an unscheduled phasegate transit and uncontrolled descent. The Mayday call frames the in-fiction setup for the playable opening of Subnautica 2. |

Connection to Subnautica 2
Episode 3's reference to Zezura as a potential refuge confirms the audio drama is directly setting up the events of Subnautica 2. Episode 4's question about Alterra negligence ties the broader narrative to Alterra Corporation's role in the colonization mission. Episode 5's Mayday call from the Cicada sets up the player's deep-start opening on Proteus, where the Noetic Advisor guides the player after the crash. Producer Donya Abramo described the series as connecting the broader narrative to Subnautica 2.
