Stronghold 4 is developed and published by FireFly Studios, the team behind the Stronghold series. The studio has framed the project as an attempt to capture the spirit of classic strategy games while adding the modern features players now expect, bringing medieval immersion to the front of the experience.
The game marks the series' move to a modern engine, Unreal Engine 5, while keeping the classic raised, top-down viewpoint that the series is known for. This technical leap underpins the larger maps, the more detailed world, and the dynamic weather and lighting.
Stronghold 4 was revealed in June 2026, with a public demo following later the same month. The studio plans to launch the game into early access in 2026 and has suggested it expects to spend around six months there, refining the game with player feedback before a full release.
The cinematic campaign is brought to life by a voice cast that includes Ben Starr, Samantha Béart, Walles Hamonde, and Harry McEntire, with an original score composed by Robert L. Euvino.
