Softwood is the most common wood resource in Starsand Island. It is harvested from palm trees, coconut trees, weeping figs, and small trees scattered across the entire island and is the foundation of nearly every early-game recipe. Softwood also drops on the ground around tree clusters and can be picked up without an axe.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Source | Palm trees, coconut trees, Weeping Fig, small trees, ground drops near trees |
Tool required | Basic Axe (Apprentice Crafter) |
Processes into | Softwood Plank (4 Softwood = 1 Plank at Cutter I); Charcoal (1 Softwood + 2 Fiber = 2 Charcoal at Kiln) |
Storage chests (8 Softwood each). The basic storage chest recipe uses 8 Softwood, making bulk wood production essential for inventory expansion.
Building materials. Most early structures use Softwood Plank as the primary material.
Stump Stool. The early-game stamina-recovery seat is crafted from Softwood.
Basic tools. Wooden Watering Can (5 Softwood), Bug Net (2 Softwood), and several other starter tools use Softwood.
Crafting station construction. Cutter I uses Softwood-based components.
Charcoal production. 1 Softwood + 2 Fiber produces 2 Charcoal at the Charcoal Kiln. Charcoal is the smelting fuel for Furnace I recipes.
Softwood is so common that you will never run out. Palm trees grow along the coastline, weeping figs grow around the player home and central Hopeland, and small trees dot the entire surface island. Trees regrow every few in-game days after being cut. If you need bulk Softwood quickly, sweep the trees near your starter farm and the route to Starsand Town.
Cut everything in your path. Softwood demand never ends. Cut every tree you encounter on the way to and from town to keep your stockpile high.
Process for Charcoal in parallel. Charcoal Kiln Charcoal production requires Softwood. Keep a Kiln running in the background continuously.
Stockpile 100+ before building chests. Each storage chest costs 8 Softwood, so plan to produce around 100 if you want a full row of chests for inventory organization.
Don't sell Softwood. It sells for almost nothing per unit but is needed in every recipe. Hold onto it.
