Replaced the tree-shape hedge with the studio's own worship-versus-favor distinction so the per-god unlocks are no longer conflated with the merged favor tree
11Worship and Blessings is the focused mechanics page for the Altar system in Romestead. It complements The Gods and Worship (which catalogs the seven gods) by explaining the underlying numbers and interface.223344The Altar5566The Altar is the worship interface. It is crafted at the Workbench from 3 Stone and can be placed anywhere in a settlement. Interacting with it opens the god panel, which is split into five tabs: Offerings, Quests, Blessings, Sacrifices, and Teleport. A running Worship count sits at the top of the panel next to the row of seven gods, and rewards the player has not earned yet are listed as Undiscovered.7788Offerings and Affinity991010Players click on a god portrait to open that god's offering window. Items are offered from inventory and fill that god's affinity meter. Filling the meter rewards 1 Worship Point. The "Discover Gods" quest tracks the first offering made to each god.11111212Offerings are not the only route. Since the December 2025 build each god also has god quests tied to them that unlock rewards and worship points, sending the player out to retrieve items, defeat enemies, or complete other objectives. The studio uses these quests to unlock the story gradually as the gods regain their power and memories.13131414Each item resonates with a specific god. The relationship is not random; each god has a domain.Confirmation is required when buying favors (patch 0.21.1_3), preventing accidental Worship Point spends. The Altar shows a preview of upcoming worship unlocks (patch 0.20.2_1).Offering window money-splitting bugs were fixed in patch 0.20.1_26.Research notes were removed as Mercury offerings in patch 0.20.1_25 to focus the route.15151616Sacrifices17171818A recruited citizen can be sacrificed at the Altar for bonus Worship Points. The baseline is +5 Worship Points across all gods per sacrifice; the relevant god gains an additional +10 per level of the citizen's aligned skill. A high-Blacksmithing citizen sacrificed to Vulcan therefore returns much more than a brand-new survivor.19192020Worship Points and Talent Trees21212222Worship Points are spent in a god's talent tree. Each god's tree contains:23232424Construction unlocks (new buildings or building upgrades).Stat bonuses (damage types, armor, resistance).Citizen-buff favors (improving expertise, efficiency, etc.).An Altar Blessing (described below).25252626Talent point costs range from 1 to 3 per node, with most upgrades sitting at the 1-2 range.272728-The studio's own framing of the favor side, from its March 2025 devlog, is that exploring, fighting, building, and growing earns experience in specific skills, and that experience earns Favor Points, which unlock god-specific skills and abilities. In December 2025 it said the favor trees, which playtesters had known as separate trees unlocked god by god, were merged into one big tree with different paths so that points no longer sat unspent behind a locked god, and that the change made room for more favors. No patch note since launch describes the tree's current shape, so the per-god structure above is the in-game presentation as documented here rather than a confirmed map of the tree.28+The studio's own framing of the favor side, from its March 2025 devlog, is that exploring, fighting, building, and growing earns experience in specific skills, and that experience earns Favor Points, which unlock god-specific skills and abilities. In December 2025 it said the favor trees, which playtesters had known as separate trees unlocked god by god, were merged into one big tree with different paths so that points no longer sat unspent behind a locked god, and that the change made room for more favors. That merged tree is the favor system, which is separate from the per-god worship unlocks above: in the studio's words from the same devlog, "Worship shapes the world. Favor shapes you." Offerings raise a Worship Level that unlocks new buildings, upgrades and decorations, and god quests grant worship points, while Favor Points come from skill experience. No patch note since launch describes the favor tree's current shape.29293030Altar Blessings (One Active at a Time)31313232Six Blessings are available from the Altar, one per god except Minerva, and only one can be active on a character at a time. Each is unlocked by spending Worship Points partway up that god's tree, and the choice is effectively a build decision: melee, ranged and caster each have a dedicated attack-power Blessing, while Ceres, Venus and Vulcan cover survivability.33333434BlessingEffectBlessing of Ceres+25% overall Health.Blessing of Diana+10% overall Ranged attack power.Blessing of Mars+10% overall Melee attack power.Blessing of Mercury+10% overall Magic attack power.Blessing of Venus+10% overall Health and +10% overall Energy.Blessing of Vulcan+10% overall Armor.3535Minerva is the exception: her name does not appear in the Altar's Blessing list, and her worship route rewards quest progression and construction unlocks rather than a wearable buff. Ceres is the outlier on value, granting more than double the health of any other single-stat Blessing, which makes it the common pick for players pushing into a biome above their gear tier.36363737Altar Upgrades and Teleportation38383939Altars upgraded to level 2 unlock teleportation. To teleport between two altars, both must be level 2. This makes multi-base play and quick travel between distant settlements practical. The Altar level-up XP display was added in patch 0.23.1_7.40404141The Altar itself upgrades twice, and each tier is gated behind a quest rather than raw resources, so the cost is trivial compared to the quest work in front of it. Both upgrades widen the pool of worship unlocks the player can spend Worship Points on.42424343Altar LevelUpgrade CostUnlocked ByWhat It AddsLevel 13 Stone (initial craft)Available from the startOfferings, quests, blessings and sacrifices for all seven godsLevel 25 StoneThe Giant Owl questFurther worship unlocks, plus teleportation between level 2 altarsLevel 33 Stone, 2 Clay, 6 BrickVirgil's Poem questThe deepest tier of worship unlocks4444Because the level 2 upgrade is what enables teleportation, most players push The Giant Owl early in a second settlement's life, then upgrade both altars so the pair links together.
