Every spirit in Roco Kingdom: World is assigned a nature when it is caught, hatched, or obtained through any other method. Natures are one of the most important factors in spirit cultivation because they directly influence a spirit's stat distribution. There are exactly 25 natures. Of these, 20 modify stats by boosting one stat by 10% and reducing another by 10%, while the remaining 5 are neutral and have no effect on stats.
The system is similar to the nature mechanic found in other creature-collection games. Choosing the right nature for a spirit is critical for competitive play. A physical attacker with a nature that lowers its Attack stat will always underperform compared to one with a nature that boosts Attack. Because natures are set when a spirit is first obtained, trainers who want optimal builds should either breed for the desired nature or use modification items to adjust it later.
Each nature applies a pair of modifiers to two of a spirit's five battle stats: Physical Attack, Physical Defense, Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defense. HP is never affected by natures. The boosted stat receives a +10% bonus, while the reduced stat takes a -10% penalty. These modifiers are applied after base stats, IVs, and EVs are calculated, so the impact scales with the spirit's overall stat investment.
Five of the 25 natures are neutral, meaning they do not boost or reduce any stat. Neutral natures are generally suboptimal for competitive builds because they miss the free 10% boost to a useful stat. However, they can be acceptable on spirits that need a balanced stat spread without any weak points.
You can view a spirit's nature and its stat effects in-game through the "Battle Guide" panel under "Nature Bonus", or in the Pet Training Room's "Battle Manual".
The table below lists all 25 natures organized by their boosted stat. The five neutral natures appear at the bottom.

While natures are normally permanent, Roco Kingdom: World provides two items that allow you to adjust how a nature affects your spirit's stats. These items do not change the nature itself; they modify whether its stat bonuses and penalties are active.
The Broken Magic Mirror removes the nature's negative stat effect while keeping the positive bonus intact. This is the most desirable nature modification for competitive play, as it turns any nature into a pure stat boost with no downside.
Source: Crafted through Alchemy.
Cost: 15 Wish Stars + 200,000 Locke Coins.
Limit: One craft per week. Plan your usage carefully since the weekly cap makes these valuable.
Because of the weekly crafting limit, Broken Magic Mirrors should be reserved for your most important competitive spirits. Using one on a spirit you are still evaluating is generally a waste.
The Mirror Frame removes both the positive and negative effects of a nature, effectively making the spirit's nature behave as if it were neutral. This is a less common choice, since losing the 10% boost is usually undesirable. However, it can be useful in niche situations where a spirit needs perfectly balanced stats.

The best nature depends entirely on the role a spirit fills in your team. Below are recommendations for the four most common combat roles. In each case, the ideal nature boosts the spirit's primary stat while reducing a stat it rarely uses.
Physical attackers rely on Physical Attack to deal damage. The ideal natures lower Special Attack, which physical attackers do not use.
Nature | Chinese | Boosted Stat | Reduced Stat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Adamant | 固执 | +Physical Attack | -Special Attack | Best overall choice. No relevant stat is lost. |
Jolly | 开朗 | +Speed | -Special Attack | Preferred when outspeeding opponents matters more than raw damage. |
Special attackers rely on Special Attack for damage. The ideal natures lower Physical Attack.
Nature | Chinese | Boosted Stat | Reduced Stat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Modest | 保守 | +Special Attack | -Physical Attack | Best overall choice for special attackers. Maximum damage with no relevant loss. |
Timid | 胆小 | +Speed | -Physical Attack | Preferred for fast special sweepers that need to outpace threats. |
Physical tanks absorb Physical Attack damage. They typically do not rely on Special Attack for offense.
Nature | Chinese | Boosted Stat | Reduced Stat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Impish | 淘气 | +Physical Defense | -Special Attack | Ideal when the tank does not need special moves. |
Bold | 大胆 | +Physical Defense | -Physical Attack | Good for tanks that rely on special or status moves. |
Special tanks absorb Special Attack damage.
Nature | Chinese | Boosted Stat | Reduced Stat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Calm | 沉着 | +Special Defense | -Physical Attack | Best for special walls that use status or special moves offensively. |
Careful | 慎重 | +Special Defense | -Special Attack | Preferred for special walls that use physical moves or do not attack. |
Speedsters prioritize moving first. The ideal natures boost Speed while reducing whichever offensive stat the spirit does not use.
Nature | Chinese | Boosted Stat | Reduced Stat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Jolly | 开朗 | +Speed | -Special Attack | For physical speedsters. Pairs speed with physical moves. |
Timid | 胆小 | +Speed | -Physical Attack | For special speedsters. Pairs speed with special moves. |
Below are nature recommendations for several commonly used spirits. The best nature depends on whether the spirit is used for PvP, PvE, or a hybrid build.
Spirit | Recommended Nature | Alternative | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Adamant (固执) | Jolly (开朗) | Physical attacker; Adamant for raw power, Jolly for speed builds | |
Water Blue | Modest (保守) | Timid (胆小) | Varies by PVP vs PVE; Modest for damage focus, Timid for speed focus |
Meow | Bold (大胆) | Impish (淘气) | Defensive spirit; nature depends on whether it uses special or physical moves |
Physical Attackers (general) | Adamant (固执) | Jolly (开朗) | Boost attack or speed while dumping Special Attack |
Speedsters (general) | Jolly (开朗) | Timid (胆小) | Boost speed; choice depends on physical vs special moveset |
Tanks (general) | Bold/Impish | Calm/Careful | Boost the defensive stat matching the threats the tank is meant to absorb |
Natures play a major role in breeding. When two spirits produce an egg, the offspring's nature is influenced by the parents' natures. Trainers who want a specific nature on a newly hatched spirit often breed multiple generations, selecting parents with the desired nature to increase the odds of passing it down.
Combining careful breeding with the Broken Magic Mirror creates the most optimized spirits. Breed for the correct nature first, then use a Broken Magic Mirror to remove the negative stat penalty. This two-step process is the standard approach for building top-tier competitive teams.
Always check a spirit's nature before investing EVs or other resources. A bad nature can undermine an entire build.
If you capture a spirit with a strong nature but imperfect IVs, it is usually better to keep it and fix the IVs later rather than hunting for a perfect catch with a worse nature.
Neutral natures (Serious, Hardy, Bashful, Quirky, Docile) are safe but suboptimal. They work as placeholders until you can breed or obtain a spirit with the correct nature.
The Broken Magic Mirror is one of the most valuable weekly crafts in the game. Prioritize crafting one every week, even if you do not have an immediate use for it.
For element type coverage purposes, the reduced stat from a nature matters less when it is a stat the spirit never uses. A fire-type special attacker losing Physical Attack to a Modest nature loses nothing of practical value.
