Overview
Gulu Balls (咕噜球) are the primary tools used to capture Spirits in Roco Kingdom: World. Every ball features a distinctive star-shaped design on the front, a hallmark of the Roco Kingdom franchise. Different ball types offer different capture rates and special effects, ranging from the humble Normal Gulu Ball that any new Mage can craft for free, all the way up to the Prism Ball that guarantees a perfect shiny catch.
Understanding which ball to use in which situation is one of the most important skills for any aspiring Spirit tamer. Wasting premium balls on easy catches is a common beginner mistake, while relying solely on Normal Gulu Balls will leave players frustrated when trying to catch rare or legendary Spirits. This guide covers every ball type available in the game, how to obtain them, and when to use each one.
Standard Tier Balls
Standard tier balls form the backbone of every player's catching toolkit. They are categorized by their base capture rate, which scales from the weakest Normal Gulu Ball to the guaranteed-capture King Ball and premium Prism Balls. The following table lists every standard tier ball, its approximate capture rate, and how to obtain it.
Ball | Chinese Name | Capture Rate | Price / Source |
|---|---|---|---|
Normal Gulu Ball | 普通咕噜球 | ~10-20% | Free crafting at Alchemy Station (ore + stamina + catalyst); daily claims scale by Mage level |
Intermediate Gulu Ball | 中级咕噜球 | ~25-40% | Daily tasks, limited-time events, achievement rewards |
Advanced Gulu Ball | 高级咕噜球 | ~40-60%, bonus when target is below 30% HP | Annie Shop: 15,000 Roco Shells (unlimited purchase); story rewards, weekly tasks |
Super Gulu Ball | 超级咕噜球 | ~60-80% | Limited-time events, battle pass rewards |
King Ball | 国王球 | 100% guaranteed | 240 Roco Diamonds; 10 Damaged King Balls can be exchanged for 1; King's Castle gacha (4 free attempts); monthly card (5 included in first month) |
Capture Light Ball | 捕光球 | 100% guaranteed | 80,000 Roco Shells (S1 Season Hall exchange); Season Pass rewards. Does not guarantee any specific talent. |
Prism Ball | 棱镜球 | 100% guaranteed | 1,600 Prism Crystals or 1,600 Diamonds (~160 RMB). Guarantees a shiny Spirit with "Exceptional Talent" and all three growth stats locked at a perfect 10. |
Dream Weaver Prism Ball | 织梦棱镜球 | 100% guaranteed | Battle Pass (3-4 units per season); Shop (160 RMB). S1 exclusive "Dark Night Starlight" color variant. Identical stats to standard Prism Ball. |
Attribute Balls
There are nine Attribute Balls, each specializing in two specific element types. When used against a Spirit matching one of those elements, the Attribute Ball provides a significant capture rate bonus compared to a standard ball of equivalent tier. Attribute Balls are synthesized at the Alchemy Station using 2 Normal Gulu Balls plus the corresponding plant materials gathered from gardening.
Ball | Chinese Name | Specializes In |
|---|---|---|
Photosynthesis Ball | 光合球 | Grass + Light types |
Temperature Ball | 调温球 | Fire + Ice types |
Beautiful Ball | 美妙球 | Cute + Normal types |
Warmonger Ball | 好战球 | Fighting + Dragon types |
Net Ball | 网兜球 | Water + Flying types |
Sand Sifting Ball | 淘沙球 | Ground + Bug types |
Insulation Ball | 绝缘球 | Electric + Poison types |
Dark Star Ball | 暗星球 | Ghost + Dark types |
Transformation Ball | 变幻球 | Illusion + Mechanical types |
Each Attribute Ball covers a pair of element types, and together the nine balls span all 18 standard elements in Roco Kingdom: World. The plant materials required for synthesis can be grown in the player's garden, making Attribute Balls a renewable and cost-effective option for targeted catching.
Conditional and Weather Balls
Conditional Balls activate their bonus capture rate only under specific circumstances, such as a particular time of day, weather condition, or location. Using them outside their intended condition provides no advantage over a Normal Gulu Ball.
Ball | Chinese Name | Condition |
|---|---|---|
Sleepy Ball | 瞌睡球 | Effective only at night against sleeping Spirits |
Water Drop Ball | 水珠球 | Effective during rain weather |
Ice Crystal Ball | 冰凌球 | Effective during snow or blizzard weather |
Soft Ball | 柔软球 | Dungeon-exclusive; cannot be traded or transferred |
Coco Fruit Ball | 可可果球 | S1 memorial item; roughly equivalent to Advanced Gulu Ball |
The Sleepy Ball is particularly useful because many rare Spirits can only be found sleeping in specific locations at night. The Weather Balls (Water Drop and Ice Crystal) synergize with the game's dynamic weather system, rewarding players who pay attention to forecasts and hunt during storms or snowfall.
Purchase Limits and Restocking
Not every ball is available at all times. Several sources have daily, weekly, or event-based purchase limits that players should plan around.
Traveling Merchant: Restocks Attribute Balls every weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Players can purchase up to 100 per day at 7,500 Roco Shells each.
Annie Shop: Sells Advanced Gulu Balls for 15,000 Roco Shells with no purchase limit. This makes it the most reliable source for mid-tier balls.
King's Castle Gacha: Offers 4 free attempts that can yield King Balls. Additional attempts require Roco Diamonds.
Alchemy Station: Normal Gulu Balls can be crafted at any time as long as the player has the required ore, stamina, and catalyst materials. The daily claim amount increases as the player's Mage level rises.
Season Pass: Both Capture Light Balls and Dream Weaver Prism Balls are available through the paid tiers of the Season Pass. These reset each season.
Capture Tips
Capture success in Roco Kingdom: World is not purely random. Several factors influence the outcome of each throw, and understanding them can save players a significant number of balls over time.
Lower the target's HP. The lower a Spirit's remaining HP, the higher the capture rate. Getting the target below 30% HP activates the bonus multiplier on Advanced Gulu Balls and above.
Inflict status conditions. Status effects like Sleep, Paralysis, and Freeze all provide capture rate bonuses. Sleep offers the largest boost.
Match the element. Using an Attribute Ball that corresponds to the target Spirit's element type provides a significant bonus. Always check the target's type before throwing.
Use Normal Gulu Balls as synthesis material. By mid-game, Normal Gulu Balls become more valuable as crafting ingredients for Attribute Balls than as capture tools. Avoid hoarding them.
Check the weather and time. Conditional Balls are extremely effective when their conditions are met. The Sleepy Ball at night and Weather Balls during storms can outperform even Super Gulu Balls.
Save King Balls for emergencies. King Balls guarantee capture but are expensive and limited. Reserve them for one-of-a-kind encounters, shiny Spirits you cannot afford to lose, or Spirits that keep breaking free from other ball types.
